Pallet Fork clamp on hitch

Nice....If you added a 2" reciever to that it would be everything you need!

I notice that the bolts for this are threaded to the head; they must not be long enough to pass through the forks? You might want to consider either drilling a hole through the forks and threading the bolts into the bottom of the top piece.

I think the way it is attached you are only using the clamping presure of the bolt end to hold it on. If you apply any axial force it might slip off ; the bolts will not bite into the forks at all, they are too hard.

Maybe I see it wrong:eek: ?

Cheers,
Mike

Yes, a reciever would be a nice addition to this unit. I have other ways of moving my trailers around but I'm sure the reciever would come in handy for alotta folks. Thanks :)

What you see in my pictures is correct Mike, the only thing holding the hitch on to the forks is the pressure from the threaded bolts. Your idea of drilling through the forks and threading the top side of the hitch would be good and Very secure . I havent done it yet but what I planned to do is " dimple " the bottom of the forks ( 1/2 inch or so ) using an oversize drill bit. I think having a "pocket " on the bottom side of the forks for each of the four bolts will hold everything in place. Thanks for your comments. :)

When I build mine, I was planning on including a "safety chain" that would attach to the back of the clamp-on hitch and then loop around the lower crossmember of the pallet forks. That would at least keep it from slipping off, even if there was still a little movement.

Could also use a solid piece of angle iron or pipe for this purpose with some kind of clamp to attach to the crossmember.

I like that safety chain idea runner. My forks have a place to hook a chain too ( centered on the 3 pth ) Think I'm gonna add that to my hitch :) Thanks Runner .

I stole the idea from these guys:

I have seen that picture but the load could slide back towards the tractor if you lift the forks too high ( it seems like it could anyways ) YIKES !!

Bob,

I agree completely. That's why I like your design, it would be almost impossible for it to slide back towards the tractor.

I suppose using a rigid link in lieu of the chain, like angle iron or pipe, with a clamp to attach to the fork lower frame member would be the surest way of holding it steady.

Today I added a safety chain and painted everything :)
