I've a old 240 Garden tractor and the paint is pretty faded and would like to paint it, but, would it stick to the plastic hood and some the trim pieces? I would primer first and then color. OR would I just be wasting my time? Does anyone have experience with paint on these tractors? bjr

I would clean the parts good to remove any traces of oil or silicone, then I would scuff the parts with a 3M Scotch Brite pad or equal. I do not think I would use primer, but it is up to you. If you use quality paint it should stick just fine.
Good luck,
Ken

It takes a special paint to paint plastic. Visit a Automotive Paint supply house in your area and discuss what you want to paint with one of the personnel. Sherwin Williams sells good automotive paint. If you visit a Sherwin Williams Store make sure it one that specializes in automotive paints and not one that sells only paint used to paint structures.

I agree with this and would choose an enamel paint most likely, need a paint that can bend a little without fracturing. I would stay away from laquers which harden with age. I would be inclined to use Ken's approach to prep and use the Deere enamel probably need the older classic color of green anyway.

You WILL need a flex agent mixed into the paint.
