Sounds like you're almost done, but one thing that I finally tried was one of those Power Rollers. For what you're doing it probably wasn't too bad since you could reach the ceiling with an extension, but my ceilings are too high - have to use The Big Ladder. Anyway, I just hooked that sucker straight up to my 5 gallon bucket and painted away. Only had to come down to move the ladder.
And when it came time to paint the walls, that thing allowed me to absolutely fly. They claim you can put on something like a gallon a minute. I don't see how (and still do a decent job), but it is fast.
