Thanks for all the responses. I have already bought the T1-11 so I am going to put it on. My Dad's shed is 30 years old and just got stained a year ago when Mom had her house painted. The T1-11 is still in pretty good shape. Everyone has given me a lot to think about and I am definitely second guessing the T1-11 but I am not a shed expert and made a decision to go that route. Based on everything I have heard I am thinking about a high quality paint.

I wish I had known more about the smart siding. It just looked thin to me and I did not realize it was as strong as Eddie said.

Was your Dad's shed built with good overhangs, gutters, and protection from ground splash so it was better protected from water damage?

Don't spray it. Sprayers are not even coverage, and they are horrible at getting into angles and grooves. Best way to paint anything with texture that has never been painted is with a brush. I prefer a soft brush because it gives me the most coverage. Once painted, you can use a roller for the second coat on most things, but with T1-11, you really need to use a brush every time you paint it.

One advantage to T1-11 is that it's plywood. Once it's up and starting to age, you can easily install house wrap and install Hardie over it.

Or just install Hardie instead of painting and write the T1-11 off as an underlayment and as an educational expense!

I thought about that Hardy Board. It was 68 bucks a sheet. I almost bought it. I kept going back and forth between that and the T1-11. I have the shed 1 1/2 feet off the ground on peri blocks left over from my house. I hope that helps with preventing rot on the bottom. Thanks for the post. In about 8 years when it is rotting I will go back and get the hardy board. 😁
I just looked up Hardie board in Richmond -
James Hardie Primed Hardie Panel-Hz 5 0.312-in x 48-in x 108-in Fiber Cement Panel Siding is $67.03.

But that's 108". I was looking before at 8' sheets.
Also - are you getting the 10% veterans discount?

I have 1 foot overhangs so that should help.

Get some good stain or paint and get it covered, then don't worry about it.

I built my shed 25 years ago with osb. Replacing it now with osb, because I already had it.
