I was hesitant to respond to your post, because of my inexperience with brazing, but Hoeman's post has encouraged me to pipe up.

The picture is borrowed from a recent thread on a leaky front axle. It is an image of the finished product. More pictures of my brazing attempts are scattered throughout the thread.

The cutting tip was what I used (I don't have a brazing tip} and it seemed to work very well. The process seems like soldering with a brass rod. So far, the braze is holding...no leak. Be sure and use flux.

Brazing with a cutting head is a time honored tradition. As long as the flame is properly adjusted, and you don't hit the trigger, it will work fine.
Brazing and soldering are the same process, just done at different temperature and with different filler material.

Since taking welding classes at the local community college I learned a trick with brazing. Take a large carpenters pencil and make a mark where you want the braze to stop. It will. You can make pretty butt joints, etc. with this "insider" info. Try it.

That would have added a little time to the repair. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Thanks for the good tip. It seems like I learn something new every time I log on to TBN.
