Screen for catching pieces of O-rings?
Since not sure what the schematic or circuit looks like I am only guessing but suspect the intent of the screen is to catch debris in lines from cylinder to manifold.

Screens on valves are semi worthless unless they only flow in one direction since flow in the side of the valve screen collects debris while flow in the nose debris is flushed back into the system.

Looking at picture that check prevents(blocks) flow from side to nose based on O-ring and backup ring orientation.

Cool ones.

I'd like to clarify that this thread should be titled 45X not 4XX. JD rd balers capable of making 6 ft diameter bales have 2 double acting tension arm cylinders not 1 single acting cylinder on tension arm. 1st two photos are 457 next 2 photos are 467

Thank you Jim. I corrected it on the other forum as well. I should have known better.

Thanks for posting those diagrams on how this circuit functions.
It looks like the high pressure relief is a semi-special relief in that it is pilot operated with pressure in the side. I suspect would require some special tools to disassemble and clean. The cap or plug will unscrew out of the top of the valve but would most likely require a collet to grip the OD of the plug. Then underneath that plug is an adjusting screw that unscrews to remove the internals. Problem now is without some form of test stand you have no way of resetting the valve.

A small piece of debris trapped on the pilot seat will reduce the set pressure.

The service manager unscrewed the low pressure valve and cleaned. He did say the high pressure comes apart similar and have to be careful how it’s gripped to unscrew it. I’m calling salvage yard today and see what a used one costs. I’m more likely to play with one if I have a known good one on hand. What the service manager said was that the high pressure valve uses shims to change pressure.

Yes I’m curious if I can manipulate it but not until I have a back up.

Did some experimenting with the round baler. Decided to try an adjustable valve meant for JD's bigger balers. Relief Valve fits John Deere 535 560M 560R 566 567 568 569 569 Premium 569 Sillage Special 852 854 862 862 AE54856

I had no information from JD on range of specs for using the wrong relief valve so decided I would do it myself. Ordering it from ASAP gave me the ability to return it if it doesn't work.

Everything went well. Once I got the adjustable valve finalized the baler ran at 3500-3600 psi for several bales until getting broke in and settled at 3700 for the remainder of the 22 bales made. With JD non adjustable pressure relief valve the baler should run at 3500+-100psi. While I did not test the range of the valve it appears one could run it anywhere from 2500-5000+ psi from what I saw getting it dialed in for what I wanted. One turn of the knob is approx. 1000 psi. Going forward I'm looking at making my own baleage at about the 3700+-psi range and the hay I sell turn it down to 3200+-psi range.
