"Over-maintaining" a vehicle....

I have a 99 f150 with 340'000 that we use around the farms locally like a rolling toolbox that has never had the plugs changed since we bought it with less than 200'000 many years ago !

Mindful of the head issue ? Or you typically don't change out plugs till you have a driveability problem ?

Not judging, just asking....

People say "won't crank" when they mean won't start and run. Why they say that I don't know.

i know they do.. which makes helping them remotely diagnose a problem frustrating.

guy emails me and tells me his tractor won't crank.

I start a 2 page message about checking bat voltage, starter cables, grounds, solenoid..e tc.. etc.

then he emails back and says.. no it turns over but won't crank up.

at that point.. i've wasted pages of typing on a small device with small keys....

Common sense should be renamed. I know several people who are like that guy. If the manual says to do something they will religiously do it. However if it's not listed then either they assume it doesn't need doing or don't even know about it. I've watched air filters get thrown out simply because the manual said to replace it even though it looks brand new.

My Dodge Ram has a spring-loaded indicator that reaches a certain line when the air filter is ready to be replaced. The owner's manual says that there is no way to visually determine whether an air filter needs to be replaced. For my tractor, it says the same, although the tractor doesn't have an indicator. The tractor's manual says to just follow the schedule.
