Out of State Buying

CT is CRAZY about sales tax. Thats one place that I would not mess with this. I'm in PA... we hear from CT about what their residents are buying. No other state has does this.

We have to Add 6% CT Sales tax to any tractors we sell in CT.

also remember some states dont tax "farm stuff"

CA has an "AG use" sales tax...it think it is 2.5%, instead of the 7.75-
8.75 rate the rest pay. I do not know what kind of proof is reqd.

i hear a lot of guys talking about buying out of state becuase it is cheaper. what i am wondering about is the sales tax. since i live in connecticut, if i were to buy in say Pennsylvania or New Hampshire i would not have to pay any sales tax (correct)? i wouldn't even have to report anything in Connecticut? also, if i bought out of state, would i be able to go to a local dealer for work under warrenty? thanks a lot.

Ct has what they call a USE tax, thats what they call it when you buy over the internet or out of state.
The tax would not be collectable if you bought out of state but was using it mostly in another state(you have a vacation property in NH) even though you reside in CT but not using the item here mostly, no tax.
Anyone want to sell a 8X16 parcel of land in NH to use my tractor on.

I think if you are using it here better off paying the tax, because if caught the fines and interest will kill you.

I live in NH as well, if you paid cash and picked up the unit yourself I bet you could get away with it....

Last year I bought a ATV in VT and acording to the dealer records they delivered it to NH that way I didn't have to pay VT sales tax....Living in NH (no sales tax) we get a lot of out of staters buying here. I heard at one point MA was stopping its residents after crossing back into MA from NH to see if they had goods they did not pay sales tax on...particularly liquore from our state stores...The State of NH took issue with that...lol and the practice stopped.

I live in northern MA, which as mentioned in a previous post, is just full of people who drive into NH to buy things tax-free. For me, it's actually closer. The nearest shopping areas (Home Depot, etc) to me are in NH.

Anyway, the way it was explained to me by a dealer, was that where you take delivery matters. This is not tax advice, and in fact is probably not the way it's supposed to work.

Therefore, if I were take delivery of a tractor in NH, then that is good enough, but if the dealer delivers it, the transfer of ownership occurs in MA, and he has to tax it. Translated: Pick it up at the dealer, or pay a third party to do it (such as hire a ramp truck - $50 to save over $500 works out).

And, of course, paying cash works out better.

I am going to find out if I buy this in NH and have it shipped over to my 8x16 piece of land(can I put a mailbox on it too) to use it if I legally owe the tax to CT.
If it is legal to do, and not owe I would do it. If not I would think about it. I guess my word track would be "if I buy a tractor in NH and use it on a piece of property up there do I owe CT tax because I'm a CT resident?" I don't think I would owe it, the only other question is if I bring it to CT to use for a day or 2 what then?Perhaps I won't ask that part

If I am a CT resident and you ship my tractor to NH where is the UCC filed? Where I am or where the tractor is?
