Orangeburg Sewer Pipe problem

Will 3 inch pipe pass code? Can you use ABS or does it have to be SDR?

The way I see it, you can dig the open trench for most of it, which makes it a simple do it yourself project. The section under your neighbors patio is where the challenge is located.

When I had my 6 inch water line installed under the State Highway, with permits, the labor was $3,000. I had to buy the 6 inch pipe and the 8 inch metal pipe that the six inch pipe goes into. They drilled the hole first. Then cut and bent over the metal pipe to create what looked like the tip of a bullet. They welded on an eye to the end of the metal pipe and attached a chain to it. Then they used a backhoe to pull that metal pipe through the hole. It went 100 feet just as easy as could be.

Seeing what they did, I wonder if the plastic will have enough strength to be pulled through the hole you have in place, and how you will attach your chain to it? Maybe run the chain all the way through the pipe and have it connceted to something at the end of it so it's pushing the entire pipe? Will the pipe crumble or break if you hit a tight spot? then what?

Can you use metal pipe for the drain in that area?

Can you bore or pull out the existing drain pipe?

Good luck,
Eddie

you might look at a sewage ejector pump setup modern materials work well and would only require a 2" line which could go anywhere dug in only below frost line. look at set ups at orencosystems web sitestay with small dia chamber and there float and pump setup or equal

Seems to me the county has some blame in this matter if they required you to replace the line. This is when you became aware that They must have given your neighbor a permit to install the pool and if so how come they ok'ed it over your easement? planning dept must have been a sleep and that would make them responsible cause they caused an infringement denying you access to your easement. Of course you might find out that you no longer have an easement as your neighbor has blocked you over a long period of time? you might want to contact an attorney.

Appreciate all the replies...

My line/easement runs about 145' on my neighbors land... much more than is on my side.

We get along great... he's OK with whatever I want to do as long as when I'm done everything is back to the way it was.

Some of the ideas of bypass the run are very doable... just, the cost to establish and record a new easement isn't cheap in the big city...

The trenchless guys make it look so easy... I've seen several jobs done and it was just another day for these guys... mine should be much easier because there is no street excavation at all... everything runs down the back...

The trench-less guys use HEPE with a bursting head and cable...

No way to pull out the old orangeburg... it just crumbles if disturbed...

At least I have some time... and the sewer auger I bought has paid for itself many time now...

I'm thinking of just attacking it a section at a time...

My thought was not to attack your neighbor but to go after your county and make them do and absorb the cost of the replacement sewer line or any other property line ajustments. Glad to hear that you have a good relationship with your neighbor.

Don't tell my crews $60 a foot for drilling they will be there. We are paying $6.

Dont mess around get a real Directional drill crew in. Map it out with test holes and have them drill it in. IF it is rocky they may just use the exisitng pipe and drill it out and pull in new HDPE.

Got a couple of bids... 5 to 7k for the one day job or about $65 per foot for the low bid.

Also found a rental yard that rents turn-key rig for $500 a day.

Only thing I would have to buy is the pipe and couplings...

I'm thinking about doing it myself in the Spring.

It is amazing how much apparent profit there is and the new law here requires all clay, orangeburg and broken cast-iron laterals to be replaced when a property is sold...

Typical crew is 3 people... sometimes two.

Found a contractor by accident that wanted the job @ $45 a foot.

The job turned out well, even with the downpour in the middle.

The old Orangeburg was no match for the bursting head and inch by inch the new line went in...

Three man crew and each had a job to do... just as well I didn't end up trying to do it myself.

Glad to hear you got it all taken care of, and for a reasonable price.
