ORANGE or GREEN???

The B-2710 will feel more responsive as it is closer to the ideal weight to horsepower ratio of farm tractors. Currently they feel anything over 120lbs per hp is a negative and hinders drivetrain life engine performance as well as fuel economy. That is for farmers doing tillage work so just imagine what happens when you don't want to till up the lawn! The Kubota's have been starting in our yard when dealers of other makes wouldn't even attempt to start there tractors so that is a plus for your winter operation.

Badapple, since Perry White suggested you consider the 4310 I'll jump in and ask you to consider the Kubota Grand L3130. OH LOOK! Here is a Kubota Web Page that compares the JD 4210 to the Kubota L3130! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I tried the free chair thing about a dozen times, using different email addresses. I never got any email. I gues I won't be sitting on anything but my JD tractor /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Welcome to TBN, we always need more members who consider green for their first tractor. Got a question, why would you want a 73 inch bucket on a 420 loader? My 4210/420 loader has the 61 inch bucket and I think it's the largest the 420 loader can safely lift without extensive rear ballasting. If you want to buy the 73 inch bucket so you can move a lot of material I suggest you get the 4310/430 combo instead. Just my 2 cents worth.

I agree on getting the 430 loader with the 61" bucket. I have a 4310/420 combo and wish I had the 430, but my wife bought it for me for my birthday and the dealer had the 420 on the machine (and no 430s in stock). He told her the additional $500 for the 430 wasn't worth it. She told me "take it or leave it", so here I am with my 420. Still wish I had the 430, but happy to have a tractor.

Badapple,
My wife (and I) both work at CAT. She works in
the Marine engine marketing division. In February she was
working the Miami Boat show and got to meet Tim Allen.
Tim is buying a new 54 foot Uniesse sport boat with twin
CAT C18 engines with 1015 horsepower each. The marketing
folks worked some deal to have Tim do a press event at the Miami boat show with the emphasis on the more power bit.
My wife is the blonde on the left.

If you are concerned about cold starting be sure to get a block heater installed on your new tractor. My 4210 starts easily at 5 below zero with no heater but I am concerned about possible engine wear so am going to install a BH later this summer. Funny thing, both our car and SUV have factory installed heaters but I never thought about having one for my JD when I ordered it. Dumb me.

Very Funny - I had to look twice at that one... the yellow seat was the first giveaway. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Although we were looking at smaller tractors, we had a good time on side-by-side comparison day at a dealer that sells both orange and green. With same equipment and performance the green one was less expensive. I did not like the hip-located joystick for FEL. Our main use is loader. It seemed that the mechanical advantage was wrong. Took too long for what I wanted to do to get from the handle of the control to the action of the bucket. Looked like a great idea but ultimately didn't have the right 'feel' for me. It's all about feel.

I sat on the green one first, drove it around, worked the loader, ran it up on a couple curbs, then drove it full speed into an orange one of the same class to see which would sustain the least amount of damage.
OK, I'm kidding about this part.

But after driving it around, I got on the orange one and it was over. Immediately over. The orange won wins.
The new hood style of the JD did not afford me a good view of the FEL. Looking down the side of the JD engine cowling didn't help as the supports go in the way.

I felt (as did the wife) that I was much more in control of the movements of the bucket with the orange unit. The combo of visibilty and controls right in front (where the work is) sold us. The short-stroke feeling of the Kubota joystick for FEL was also more apealing. Both great machines. We got an orange one.

As for the cold start issue. That is of course solved with any number of heating devices set on timers or whatever works for you. I personally prefer the oil-pan type. Heat pad. I'd rather start my engine with hot oil in the lower end than cold oil into a warmed upper end. That heat will also rise to warm the rest of your rig.

good luck, have fun -- OF

I like the JD long joystick for using the loader, but it gets in the way getting on and off the tractor.

I do agree that the visibility over the JD hoods is poor. Also, even if you could see over the hood or around the supports, the shape of the bucket makes it impossible to see the digging edge.

Maybe its a bad idea to use a low-flat bucket style like a skid-steer on a loader without auto-leveling, but I sure wish I could see the digging edge better on my little 410.

Billy,

I had the same problem as you at first, the emails were going into my bulk mail box and I don't check that on a regular basis.

Maybe it's being blocked by your pop up blocker.
