Tires Options for widening 5083e

This spring I would like to get the 5083e a little wider for added stability while mowing ditches. Im just not sure how to go about it. Can these rims be widened? Or do I need spacers?

Also what are you guys doing for the fronts?

Back when I sold new JD tractors wheel width adjustments was outlined in operators manual. Did JD stop putting that information in the OM? Most flanged axles has 8 position rear wheels but I don't know if that's still true.

Basically, you change the position of the inner wheel to the outer wheel.

Like Jim said, your manual. Your looking for a page like I've attached. Figure H would give you your widest position. And swapping left for right will keep your tread direction correct.

John deere sells their tractos at the narrowest wheel width unless you make them change it. Like the previous posters, the lugs on the inside of the rim are not centered, and based on how they are bolted in you can get four different widths. You can't flip the dished hub because the cab won't let it fit otherwise. IF that still isn't wide enough by flipping the tires side to side and putting the lugs to the outside of the wheel hubs, Deere also sells axle extensions for the E. I believe they go all the way up to 4" per side? I know i have seen 1.2" and 1.8" possibly. If you want to know part numbers, go to the build your own page for the E and fill everything out, on the 2nd page it lists the axle extensions.

There is a good section in your owners manual about it.
Here is what four point one inch spacers and tires set to positon eight looks like on a 50XXE series. It makes it very stable with loaded tires.

Awesome guys! Thanks for all the info. I may try swapping the wheels left to right, right to left first. I know they are heavy, do you think 2-3 guys could lift them to get them back on?

From looking at your picture it's obvious that you can gain 2-3" on each side without even switching sides. Jack one side with the tire just barely touching the ground. Remove the 8 bolts holding the outer rim to the wheel center. Turn the center slightly until the tabs of the outer rim can be cleared. Then wiggle the tire outward until the tabs are outside the center. Then turn the center slightly until the bolts can be replaced. If you want more width than that, then you must switch sides. If your tires aren't filled, it's not too bad. If filled the tire gets off balance and wants to fall over rapidly. And as mentioned above, you can't stop it once it gets leaned too far. My rears have 750 lbs of fluid in each one. I can't quite lift that much if it ends up on top of me.....

I did not add spacers to the front, just had them set at position seven which was the recommended width for loader work.

I will try gaining that 2-3inches first, the tires aren't filled yet.

Im pretty sure this will make mowing a little more comfortable.

After you get the spacing to where you want it, then you could load the tires.

Loaded tires will make a big difference.

Just thought I would give a little update. We were all set to swap the tires around until we went to try and loosen the lug bolts! Even with a 4ft cheater on a breaker bar we could hardly get them to budge. So I guess its a good reason to start shopping for a big air powered impact wrench!
