Everyone,

This PC has been enough of a challenge in the past 5 years. The last 2 years I had no time for anything out side the event (people from UK, USA, Canada) we hosted on our property but that is over now.
I do like a challenge. I am sure the welders will just think some questions (not knowing the lingo) are real strange.
I checked out some youtube videos. They make it look simple. Something like Martha Stewart saying "easy as that" but the extra hands are still in the frame.

Hey, don't worry too much about sounding professional with your questions, I rarely do.

With welding, a simple explanation of your intent and detailed closeup pics of your attempt will get some very good assistance/advice free.

I consider myself a capable welder. Then I see work the professionals exhibit on here. Humbles me. And educates me.

Well you may not have welded it yourself but you came up with the design, a good one at that, and I'm with Ovrszd,try doing some welding yourself. Beautiful job on the painting also ! Enjoy !

If'in I wasn't such an old bird, I'd love to take up welding. As it is, I'm lucky to stay up with the chores that I already have the energy and tools to do.......or to screw up.

However, a beautiful mod like Al Mac just did gets the desire up.:thumbsup: I'd go for it Mac, you are bound to need the skill before long.....especially when you bend or knock off one of the anti-scalp wheel/mounts off that MMM.

One of the past threads was on the sidestep and the flex they had. Part of this was from the rubber mounts the deck the rest from a light deck. I have noticed that when the tractors is running I can feel the vibration on this one under foot when on the step. It is great when getting on and off with the MMM on the tractor. I don't like stepping on the deck with it up.
When I got my 09 work truck the extra springs for the load was higher than the old truck. As I am in the back of the truck several times a day, my knees were taking a beating. So this project came from a couples hours at the local welding shop (I am their a lot) one afternoon. I just had a thought when I walked into the door and started going through the bits and pieces rack. As I chopped and played with the pieces I got one of the guys weld it together.
Was the best couple hours I spent. My knees love me for it.

I have checked out Paul Shorts projects. Him and others on this forum have come up with some great ideas. You guys bring the use of a tractor to another level. It is not another piece of equipment to use but more a tool to be modified to make life easier.
Learned a lot. More to learn.

Great modification. Looks professional.

I challenge you to start doing your on welding. You'll be surprised how quickly you become more proficient. If the learning curve is a bit steep, post questions here in the Welding section. We have some excellent professional grade welders that will gladly give you pointers.

I agree, good mod and looks great.

I also agree that welding is a tremendously useful skill around the equipment. I waited a dozen years too long.

However, for doing decent welds on heavier steel, you do need a capable machine. The inexpensive 110v welders are unlikely to ever do a good job on heavier metal.

Nice, and I hope it is as sturdy as you say because the gusset is in the wrong place... You don't want the gusset on the face of the tube (in the middle like shown), but on the edges where it can bear on the vertical wall and not just the face of the tube. Putting it on either outside face works well, or at the edge of the tube (outside is easier, IMO). The phrase I have seen used is that it acts like a can opener if placed like it is in your build. If the overall structure is strong enough, then probably not an issue, but just not ideal. Just something for future reference...
