Harv I hate to hear about your truck, It must be goin around, my 74 Ford F600 threw the pto seal and also broke the hitch frame. I do have a little info on the loader tractor you showed us, I thinks its a Clark, Yale,or Maybe and Eimco loader for seed or any other item thats stored inside a ware house or paved yard. THeir used to be a similar machine here at the cotton gin. Eimco made a loader like that that was for mines but it sat on rails and was an over shot loader, as it hoisted the load over the cab and you backed uo to the truck ith no turning. They also made a few yard loaders. If I have your permission to download your pictures of it I may know a fella that can pinpoint it for you. Take care hope you have a great time on the remainder of your trip.

And what was that talk awhile back about the Fords not being reliable, LOL. Just kidding you. Sorry to hear about the trouble. It really sucks to have a new truck and have it die like that!!

Moss,

I put thirty or so miles on a bud's 03 four door Hemi a week or so ago and loved the power but hated the ride. It had the twenty inch wheels.

The one from Enterprise was a four wheel drive four door Hemi with the seventeen inch wheels. It was a much smoother riding truck. I strongly suspect Enterprise has messed with the puter to detune it a bit too. Bud's would light them up anytime below twenty with just a foot to the floor motion. This one would light them up but not after fifteen or so.

The one today and yesterday had seventeen thousand miles on it. At one of my stops a retailer pointed out I had a bad tire on the right rear. Evidently a previous user had done a serious burn out and that tire was burnt down to next to nothing and what was there was real gummy. I was told that's one of the side affects of cloroxing for a burn out.

But even with the miles and the fact that it was a rental vehicle it was very tight in ride and fit. The only thing I didn't like with either one was the exhaust tone. It doesn't have the belly roar of a flowmaster system but it is louder than what is pleasing to a fifty five year old's ears.

I can't see me with a half ton anything. But if I was to go looking for one I would definately look at the Dodge with the Hemi real hard.

Taylor,

If I get a chance on the way home I'll stop by and take a real close look at them to see if they're like you suspect, an over the shoulder boulder loader. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif It is a mining area after all. Use the pictures all you want.

Doc, why is it I knew you'd pipe in? Actually the first two thoughts across my mind when I realized the truck was seriously ill was wax will mess up anything and some of my words were going to be like crow, tuff to chew.

What it turned out to be was bad fuel. Evidently either the Chevron in Soccoro New Mexico or more likely, the Chevron in Show Low Arizona gave me some real trash. They said the filter was almost a hundred percent plugged.

I've got an extra filter because you and I both know it's going to take at least two filters to get all the rest of that garbage out of the system.

As a side note. I don't know about the sales side of the house but the commercial service department at Midway Chevrolet is loaded with some of the nicest and most professional people I've ever had to deal with. If you're in Phoenix or going through and have a problem with a GM product I would go out of my way if necessary to deal with them.

The staff at Enterprise was outstanding as usual. Walmart might be the largest publicly owned company but Enterprise is the largest private one. Every dealing I've had with them makes me understand why.

Yesterday we stopped in Dewey, just south of Prescott. Prescott is famous for it's weather, scenery, and rodeos.

One of the neatest things I saw there gave me hope. One of these days I too will detire. At that time I hope I will be able to still interact with later generations.

Wish you were here Bird. We're about to saddle up and head Lucy towards Tucson for a visit. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Youngs Farm in Dewey has the neatest fall festival of about anywhere. It was so much fun to watch the kids interacting with all the farm stuff. The little girl on the mechanical bull was too much to not take a picture. The barrel train behind the tractor was hilarious. I'm not who was having the most fun. There was the kids, the conductor--engineer with a grin you couldn't take off with dynamite, and all those parents and grandparents double timing in tow with cameras a clicking, hissing, and whirring.

Miss Glenda got a real deal on a denim jacket /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif. It got some roasted hatch peppers. And Lucy had a ball. The traffic guides were female and on horseback. It might have been me but I strongly suspect the smiles they gave us were for the chrome and red show off I was piloting.

I've got some great photos of tractors pulling hay ride trailers. But the internet provider for my father is five degrees beyond terrible. I finally gave up posting photos. It's too long and patience is the one virtue some folks thing I missed the line on.

Harv glad to hear you got Lucy goin again. Our fall festival here is the Herritage Day, just a little car show and some vendors. I remeber that they used to have a small tractor show and livestock but thats all changed now.
The next time you see the little loader tractor can you get a frontal shot of the emblem on the hood of the yellow one or take a photo, I think I have it figured out. Its not an overshot loader but a short turn tricycle loader. I think its a Hyster. Take care Taylor Lambert

We just got back to Surprise where my dad lives. We've spent the day in Tucson. Ya'll all know what's in Tucson.

I now know the secret to the success of Tractor by net, or affectionately known amongst us, TBN.

At first it would appear the magic ingredient could be Hakim's brilliance. But a closer study gives one pause that it might be all about Ibrahim's dilligence and dedication. But one can't ignore Muhammad's diplomacy and instant recall mind.

They're all important. But I see them only as parts of a sum. The sum of course is Mrs Chishti. Muhammad shares with most of us the fact that our most redeeming quality is our mother.

She would never admit this. So don't mention it or say you heard it from me.

BTW I cheated a bit on my fellow TBN'ers who aren't as fond as Chevys as I am. Muhammad got to sit in the driver's seat of Lucy and got to see the world not only as it could be, but as it should be. He'll never be the same, sorry doc /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think you're right Taylor. It looks like I won't be going back through Superior on our way home. But I do hope to go through Jerome in the morning, gotta get Cindi's card ya know. They might have one there since they are one of the world's most famous old mining towns.

Evening Doc, you find that filter clue me into the specifics so I can follow suit.

A hot shot truck was in for a fuel problem when I got my thirty thousand mile service. The mechanic said they'd got into some bad fuel and it had taken out the injector system. Each injector is five hundred dollars. Eight of those puppies could cost a bit if not more. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Hakim was taking the pictures. I was too busy trying to make sure Muhammad's grin didn't get away from him. Something that big loose in a parking lot could do thousands of dollars worth of damage. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

When you get back drop me a line and I can get you the info on a couple of pre-oem kits. They all run about $250 with shipping. The consesus of the techs I have talked too is that the OEM fuel filter should be changed every 10k not the 15 in the manual. You can get them much cheaper by mail. I will get the addresses for you if you want. By the way, all of the pre-oem kits strongly reccomend that you always travel with spare filters /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Well, live and learn, what can you do. I am enjoying the photos Dave

Yes, what Harv says is true. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif It was quite a treat to meet Harv and see some of his inventions... I'm sure everybody will be most impressed once he releases the ideas to the public.

And about Lucy... holy cow! I think whoever coined the phrase "King of the Road" was thinking about Harv and Lucy. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif She was pretty much spotless and had some ingenious features that most people wouldn't even think of putting on their trucks. That's pretty much the ultimate truck.

If you're ever in Harv's neck of the woods, I'd suggest asking for a few minutes of his time---you'll be even more impressed than you probably already are. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I love traveling, nature of the beast in me I guess. But it felt so good to shower in my shower last night and wake up this morning in my bed. Of course I woke up Arizona time which meant I was two hours behind before I even got out of bed.

Heck with it, we're still on vacation, right?

I feel a little guilty about stopping the photographing when the opportunities for great photos was at it's peak. I think I was just a little barn sour, headed home, nose down, tard, as they say.

We took the scenic route home. In Prescott Valley if I had only pulled off the road we could have taken some absolutely (twenty time zoom on that Sony) spectacular photos of antelope grazing and watching commuters. We also had a similar chance in New Mexico but I didn't, pure laziness.

Then there was the times when I'd had to have been wearing the camera and had an eyelass control for the shutter. Like when the big black boar crossed the road in front of us in west Texas. Just about daylight yesterday morning he came across the highway. A good barbwire fence on each side of the highway and he went through them like grass through a goose.

Just before that there was this one tree for this one moment in profile on this one hill this one morning's sunrise. It was one of those things where your mind grasps it and then just wallows in the sight for quite awhile. It was spectacular.

We decided to take the Wickenburg through Yarnell route to Prescott. To give you an idea of the road they have a sixty foot vehicle combination limit due to the grade and curves. Outside of Yarnell, Prescott side we came upon this wonderful five rail pipe fence replacing the barbwire one put up by the state.

We came up over a hill and there at the bottom of the next valley was a crew working on the fence. I picked up the hammer from Lucy's go button. Miss Glenda just shook her head as I pulled off the road onto a driveway of sorts and then back across country to visit with the crew.

He's seventy. She's sixty two. Most times they have their son working with them but he's a helicopter mechanic part time and that day was one of those part time days. They've been building fence for a corporation since 1996. That's what they do. If the weather is permissable they're out building pipe fence. She cuts and fits. He welds. They attibute their good health to working outside and enjoying what they do.

There is a crew that digs the holes and sets the posts. Then him and her cut in and weld up the rails. The crew then comes back and cleans--grinds the welds and paints the fence.

This particular section was put in temporary because a widening of the culvert was planned. They were in the process of cutting it out when we came upon them.

Some people are just lucky at certain things. I happen to be lucky at finding characters. This pair to draw to was super special. Being part of a pair that works well I really appreciate seeing other couples that work well together. We hit it off with them like we were separated at birth. It was two hours of exchanging ideas, tips, and contacts. We left them feeling like we'd been blessed one more time.

If you ever wonder why there's problems in the world I might have an answer for you. The good Lord's settled down in Prescott and having so much fun the rest of the world is going to pot.

Here's a photo of a bronze in the downtown square.
