Tractor
john deere 5203
i just bought a new jd 5203.i was looking in the owners manual and didn't see a section on glow plugs.do these tractors even have glow plugs?my dealer didn't mention them to me as to turn them on before cranking the tractor.he just told me to turn the key and crank it.if it does have them i know that i should be using them to save the starter some.although it does fire up pretty fast.
thanks,

I am digging! I haven't found any reference. I can't see it even being needed in Mississippi, though....

Check and see if it has wires running to them on the top of the motor. My 4110 has them, but you don't turn them on, it is built in, to turn on when you go to start it. If you watch the dash, the lights go dim, and then after a very few seconds they get brighter, on mine that say the glow plugs shut off, to start it. But some has it some don't, so if the manual don't tell you, then you will have to look and see.

It is an option for your tractor like it was my 5320. Our tractors don't have glow plugs only an intake air heater. To use it you press the key in for a few seconds. If it gets under 32 degrees you may want to get one, however I have had no problem starting at 32 degrees or a little colder without using it.

The manual recommends to use the heater under 40 degrees Fahrenheit so you may want to invest in one.

OK, if it has a preheater, then it is direct injection, and doesn't have glow plugs. If it gets that cold, then a block heater might be a good idea.
