Tractor
Kubota L2500
I am looking for my first tractor and have come across a couple of older kubotas on craigslist that look like they would fit my needs. I was just wondering what is a good price for these tractors. The first one is a L345 2WD and says it runs good, asking $3000. The other one is a B7100 4WD and runs good, asking $3800. From the pictures they both look like they are in pretty good shape for their age. Neither one say how many hours. I know I would need to make sure everything is working but do these prices seem fair? Also is their anything particular to these models to look for when buying? Thanks.

am sure others on the forum could give detailed advice on particular models. imho i would be extremely cautious of craigslist unless you see the tractors on location. scamcity!

Definitely go look at them, run them, and ask a lot of questions.
I bought 2 older Kubotas from CL, but they were both local and I spent a good bit of time checking each one out before any cash changed hands. Be aware that the front, electric PTO unit is hard to find parts for. Not a deal breaker, unless if you're planning to run a mid mount mower or a front snow blower with it.

I have some experience with craigslist and I don't think either one is a scam, I just don't know how much something like this usually sells for. Thanks for the responses.

Sound like typical prices. The B7100 is a great tractor, but be aware that its low PTO hp will limit what it will run.

The little B7100 ( I have a B6100, 2 less HP motor) is a tough machine. I would not want one if only 2wd. That extra traction is huge. You didn't mention if either has a loader, it ups the cost a decent amount.

Neither of them have a loader. The B7100 does have 4WD.

What jobs do you need a tractor to do?
How much is a machine that will do them all worth to you?
Just forget about getting a good price and go for a great value.
Price varies from place to place, sometimes by a lot.
When maintained and in good condition, these machines retain their value for a long time.
It's nothing like buying a big box lawn tractor or a car.

The L345 sounds like fair deal if its in good shape. I think I wouuld be happier around $2500, unless it had new tires. Don't know about the B.

I would be using it for mowing about 2-3 acres and maybe working a small food plot. Thanks for the responses.

Those are good old tractors at fair prices. Go look and check them out.

No loader and if flat land then no need for 4wd I would think. Diff lock should be enough for what you are doing. 4wd shines when braking while going down a hill with a full load in the bucket. If mowing off the rear PTO then you may want the one with the most PTO HP. Otherwise comes down to which fits you best and seems to be maintained the best. Good luck.

A front end loader sure does come in handy. I use mine at least 50% of the time.

You want the 4 wheel drive! it is great flat land or not. The lower gearing on my L245DT makes tilling possible. I like the larger tractor as all the old Ford three point stuff fits and can be bought cheaply. Hours can be misleading as the cable to the meter is broken in many cases. These old tractors are why Kubota is so popular. Well built. Look for the normal wear items like tires. If the tractor has been taken care of you willl be able to tell. Same is true the other way. If it has never been greased. well you know.

The L345 is a big machine for doing 'lawn' type work. Most of them I've seen have had fairly aggressive AG tires on them that really will beat up your lawn.

The B7100, with appropriately sized cutter would do really well. If it doesn't already have a ROPS on it, get one on Kubota's corporate program.

I would say it depends on the 'lawn'. I maintain my place which includes finish mowing my approx 3 acres of grass with a L5240 with ag tires. That being said I would choose the B just because it is 4x4 and for my terrain that is a must, your needs/terrain may be different.

Be careful on the B7100 it is almost identical to a B7001 which is a gray market tractor and Kubota will not sell parts for it in the US. It is still a great tractor just a little harder to maintain. You can tell by checking the serial number on the left side of the transmission body just below and forward of the PTO shifter.
