Hi there,

Thought you guys might find this 1938 Ransomes Crawler Tractor of interest.
They made a full range of attachments to fit and were produced up untill the mid 60's the later ones had pto's and 3 point linkages.

And I thought a cletrac looked archaic.. that was a real piece right there... just undercarriage and some levers!

Hey, I like my little cletrac. My buddy teases me that he's going to make a sign for it that says, "No job too small."

Oh don't get me wrong.. I like cletrac's too.. I plan on owning one some day!

The blue is the stock colour I believe. They are fun machines to drive.
They have the engine with a centrifugal clutch, connected to a FNR gear box with a big diff, and 2 drum brakes to steer.
The MG2 in the picture has a PTO and a implement lift.

Dean, good to see someone from this side of the pond, is that your MG in the pic?

Let me know if you feel like coming to Pa for a clattertrac. I used to have all the books for it but lost them in the fire. I do have a new set of sprockets for it. I've got pics of me plowing snow on it if I can ever figure out how to post a pic.

In the later years of production the colour changed to the darker ransome navy blue, a number of green ones were built during the war years
I spent last 18 months on and off rebuilding under carriage and engine with the intention of doing some competitive ploughing matches this season, it's becoming a popular tractor at matches due to it's size and weight and ease of hauling around.
I've added some more implement pictures showing some of the factory made attachments and a scene from a plough match which highlights its popularity.

It's popularity also means the second hand prices are going up big time, a few years ago you would have bought for just a few hundred , but with the upturn in vintage tractor interest generally, prices can be up in the 1000's

Slowly moving away from being a working man's pastime.......

Deanbo,

I enjoyed the pics from the manuals!

Reminded me of pics in the reproduction McCormack Deering book I bought when I restored my Granddad's 1929 Model 22-36 (higher horsepower 15-30).

The "tech" or "mechanic" was wearing a shirt and TIE, and coveralls while working on the tractor. Or the one showing him lifting the head off (weighs about 80#s I'd guess)--he was reaching in with his arms fully extended and lifting it off the studs. Or the one showing you how to raise the rear wheel to change the bearing, using a timber and fulcrum piece of wood. It did suggest "if you have access to a floor jacket, that is preferable........"

Brought back a lot of memories.
