oil

i took my top cover off yesterday and found that the oil is milky. i thouht no problem i'm rebuilding the lift any way (new oil on the way) , but then i decided to look at the rest of the tractors oil and i found that the transmission oil was milky also. so my question is are or does the transmission and hyd. use the same oil /resivor , or do i have a seal failure, thanks guys i know i have a ton of questions but i'm learning as i go .

Ford Tractor from `64 and up to 90?
have one rear end reservoir. Oil spec. are FordM2C 159 A or better, FordM2C 86 A or better. Oil must cover "wet brakes".

my tractor is a 1955 640 ford

Ah,, sorry I do not know that model. In that period it was mostly Fordson Major and Ferguson TEA around this area.

trans, and then a rear common hyds and diffy sump was the common setup on the 3 cyl jobs..

well.. i had a nice detailed post typed up about the 600 series ford and the board vaporised it

in short:

plenty of reasons why you might have water in the trans and hyds.

there is a seal between diffy and hyds .. many leak.

trans , diff, and hyds are seperate sumps.


dump in some atf-f, diesel, and rubbing alcohol 90% in those wet sumps.. drive around the yard.. drain and refill with a UTF oil meeting M2C134 ( walmart, TSC.. etc.. )
