oil weight??

I just bought an older international 234 with a mitsubishi k3b engine,what weight oil do i put in it,as i want to change the oil and filter.

I'm going to let someone closer to you answer that question.

Down here, I run 15w-40 in all my diesels. Big truck, pickups, tractors. But, it doesn't get as cold here.

I was going to say I run Shell T6 5w40 synthetic in my tractor and my Dodge Cummins. I run Mobil1 Truck and SUV diesel in my diesel car. The T6 oil is about $19-22 a gallon. Mobil is more expensive. The synthetics flow better when cold which makes cold starts a bit easier and possibly less wear.

Plenty of 5w30 semi and full synthetic oils out there to choose from, even a Castrol one from VW dealers for TDI engines that they (at least our local dealer) don't over charge for. A 5w30 is what I'd use.

I'm in Maryland near the PA line and my tractor dealer, Walter G. Coale's in Churchville, MD says 15-40 year round. I use Shell Rotella.

A 10w30 like shell rotella t5 syn blend would be good. It is on sale for $14 and change at wal mart per gallon.

I've used Shell Rotella 15w-40 and when it's cold, my MX5100 makes a loud buzzing sound for a bit at the first startup when colder than 40 deg F. I believe it's probably the oil pump, but don't know for sure. I'll be switching to T-6 5w-40 at the next oil change.

I use Chevron DELO 400 LE in everything. Have for 50 years. I get it at NAPA on their fleet discount which they give for a Military Discount. 40% less than Costco.

Side issue; what is your Seabee background? I retired after 33 years as a W4, CEC and a former UTC. As a warrant I had a couple CESE management assignments. Welcome aboard to the best forum on the Net.

i would use a 15w-40 in summer and if u like a syn oil or something more like 5w-40 or 10w-40 deisel rated for winter flow.

As always, I recommend going to the manufactures site and use what they recommend. There is no one here who knows better than the manufacturer what is best for their engine.
