I have a new 3046 R cab, I've used it for around 10 hours of med to heavy work so far.
Now to my question, I checked the oil and it's down a little, is it normal for the engine to use some oil early in it's life?

I think that would be entirely possible, as the rings get seated.. but good to continue to watch it and log your results.

I always check any fluids on a new piece of equipment just to be sure the dealer did their part to begin with.

Service manager thought it was rings are still seating, we'll see.

Does your manual have break-in instructions? Some engines require special break-in procedures to get things seated and broke in properly.

Just says not to lug the engine and vary engine speed, service manager had told me to just work it and keep an eye on the temperature as not to over heat it.

It all could all boil down to the oil not being full when the tractor was delivered.
I'm going to top it off and keep an eye on it.

On Edit: I refilled the crankcase to the full line on the dipstick and it only took about 1/2 of a quart, guess we'll see in the next 10 to 12 hours.

Sounds like a normal scenario for a new engine, watching it closely is the way to go. After break in and an oil change it should be good to go.
