Oil question

I just wanna make sure that I am using the right oil. I saw some posts that named specific brands, etc, but can I use regular automobile type synthetic oils in my tractor. Some of the specifics indicated that the oils were designed specifically for diesel engines, but when I look at all of the choices, none of them indicate that it's just for diesels, some of them say that it works in a diesel. Can somebody straighten me out here. I just don't want to burn anything up.

I use Chevron Delo 400 (15W-40) dino oil. A bunch of folks use this, Mobil Delvac, Shell Rotella (which I use in my Farmall). All are HD oils designed for diesels. Syns are good but I change the oil regularly. I use Mobil 1 in my motorcycle cause it only take about 3 quarts (not 2 gallons + like the 6000). BobG in VA

Do NOT put regular "car" oil in your tractor - ONLY use oil specified for diesels or you will regret it later. If you go to your local dealer (or someplace like Tractor Supply Co. or Gebos) you can get oil specifically formulated for diesels.

If you want to use "reg oil" you need to make sure that it is labeled as CF. There are a few car type oils that are CF such as Mobil 1. I was looking at W-M the other day, other that the standard diesel oils, there was I think 3-4 others that were CF rated.

I drive a VW Golf TDI and put Mobile Delvac 1 Heavy Duty 5W-40 full synthetic oil in it. Absolutely the most freakishly expensive stuff I've ever seen. I have to special order it from a local oil distributor. The first case I bought cost me $95/case for 4 gallons. When I found it for $75/case I went nuts and bought 4 cases. So I've got a little extra, because it will take me two years to use it all in my VW. You should have heard me trying to explain that to my wife. To my simple mind it appears that this oil fits within the parameters called for in my owners manual (Mahindra 2810 HST), but does anyone have a different opinion. I trust you guys a lot more than my feeble mind.
