Which oil filter (crossover) will fit the ym 2000 BD?

Any recommendations on oil?

My records show a NAPA 1334 is the cross for the Fram 3593A. The Fram 3593A also fits the Yanmar 1401, 1510, 1702, and my 1992 Acura Vigor, for $2.99 at Walmart. Do I have something messed up here?

No, you have nothing messed up. I'm not sure what the difference is between the NAPA 1334 and the 1064, but both can be used on most Yanmar engines. I do know that the 1064 is the "Gold" series, I don't know about the 1334. The next time I'm in NAPA I'll ask what the difference is. By the way, I was just in Walmart Monday and picked up 2 3593A's for my YM1301D and YM1110D, and paid $2.97 each.

A good 15-40 oil works just fine.

The oil should have a rating for diesel engines.

Clifst is right on, diesel rated oil has detergents in it to keep diesel carbon off the cylinder walls.

Over 95 degrees SAE50 68-95degrees SAE30 50-68 degrees SAE20/20w or20 below 50 degrees 10w or 20/20w
Single viscosity oils API Service CD
Multi-viscosity oils API Service CC orCD
The YM240 has the same engine as the YM2000.

A little more explanation on oil. You must look far and wide to find a multi viscosity oil without detergent as a component. Virtually all modern multi-weight oils are detergent oils. You do not need to buy a diesel rated motor oil to get detergent.

Neither do you need to buy the diesel tractor oil such as Walmart sells at $4.95 a quart.

Short answers, imcluding mine, do not do justice to most subjects. Manuals are also somtimes misleading. A 22 or 25 year old tractor has the same year engine and the same year manual. Multi viscosity and detergent oils have come about in the last 20 years and so are not mentioned in the manuals before then. They only had single 20,30,40,50, etc. and so that was what was recommended.

Japanese fuels are low sulphur. Canadian and U.S. are high sulphur and Europe is in between. (Sorry, don't know about Australia, etc. ) North America has a much greater need for detergent than elsewhere.

The following are both gasoline and diesel motor oils and are typically sold as motor oil. Carquest Fleet Motor Oil, Castrol Heavt Duty, Valvoline All Fleet, (Chevron) Delo 400 Heavy Duty, and Napa Universal Fleet, to name a few.

All have the following features: "Are ideal for naturally aspirated and supercharged diesels. For use in high output gasoline and diesel engines. Exceeds the manufacturers' specifications; Cummins, Mack EO-M, Detroit Diesel (4 stroke), Caterpillar, Navistar, Allison C-4,
and Caterpillar CD/TO-2."

I think he wanted a recommendation as to the proper oil for him to use in his tractor not a history of oil. Do you know the correct oil for him?

Earnsfan, you're following again. Nice to have you along behind.

There are several ways to use TBN and one of them is to go to the archives. One can write for the immediate originator of the thread AND for a historical for the archive for others with a same or similar interest in the future.

As for the recommended oil, I know and he probably knows. Can you figure it out? Here's a hint. 10-40 is the multi viscosity and see if you can figure the rest out. Here's another hint. Read the manufacturer name and the content descriptor modifier.

The YM240 manual also lists several name brands and the one I use is Shell Rotella SAE 30 from Auto Zone for about $1.75 quart.

Same as I use. The rotella is diesel rated, and I get mine at walmart about the same price.
