I am going to do my own oil change and I am a bit confused to where to pour the new oil into the engine without getting it into the valve area.
The reason why I am asking is that I read somewhere a while back about not using the top opening on the valve covers for pouring oil in as it would leak into the top of the head and valves.
Please do not insult me just want to make sure that I am doing it right. I usually get the dealer to do all my service but because of the Pandamic crisis I have to do it myself.
Any input would be great
Thanks
Gilles

I think you're on the right track, and I don't see why it would hurt to pour new oil into the proper fill location. The oil fill port should be in the valve cover, on the top of the engine right above the dipstick.

If it helps, I don't know of any other way to get oil into the engine....unless someone has come up with some odd way to fill it through the dipstick tube.

Use the proper oil fill location indicated in your manual, the dealer will also use that same oil filling location. Make sure you fully drained the old oil, and replace the drain plug but don't over tighten it, change the oil filter and tighten the new filter to hand tite only.

You need 1.53 gallons or 6 quarts+filter and when your all done, check for proper oil fill on the dip stick. So you start with 7 quarts, but only add 6.25 quarts. Screenshot_20200428-074624_Xodo%20Docs-picsay.jpg

Thanks guys,
I was sure it had to go on top of the engine just like a car, the only other place to put the oil would be hole for the dipstick which is not very wide.
Thanks

After filling with new oil, wait a few minutes for the oil to drain from the top end of the engine to the oil pan. I think you’ll enjoy the project and will be doing your own services from now on.

Kman, if you fill through the valve cover pour very slowly. It is possible to fill the valve cover faster than it drains down to the sump. The oil can travel through the breather hose to the intake and fill up any cylinder that has its intake valve open.
There is another oil fill at the orange cap near the injector pump. Blue circle in pic.

Good catch! Yes, if there is a side oil fill, by all means use that one.

That is exactly what I had read about oil traveling though the breather hole.
Thanks

Amvcane: Good catch indeed.
My CK4010 has the upper oil inlet on the valve cover permanently secured now and capped by the factory, and my proper oil inlet is now plainly marked on the inlet nearest the dip stick. So that service manual picture is marked wrong for the newer tractors.
