Just finished the complete 50 hour oil change on the m7040. A ton of material in the hydraulic oil. I am hearing that is typical for the first oil change. If it was engine oil on a car I would swear the bearings were gone, the oil was shimmering silver. Is this really the norm?

Yep, that's normal. I just did the 50hr change on a new B series and it looked like black metallic automotive paint with metal flake in it.

It was not what I experienced when I did the 50 hour service on my MX5000.
The hydraulic oil looked like it was new. Have you asked your dealer to look at it?

When I did the 50 hour on my B3030 I couldn't tell the difference between the new and the old hydraulic oil, nothing left in the bucket when I poured it off either.

I just performed the 1st full hydraulic service on my GL 3540, 170 hours. The hydro oil was clean and clear, there was however, a lot of metal bits on the magnet, in the base of the filter (break in material).

Same here.......when I did my 50hr service on my B3030 in October 08, the old HDT was just as clean as the SUDT I put in it.

Same with my B3030. So clear it made me wonder if it really needed to be done at 50 hrs.

I changed mine at 300 hours, looked clear & clean as drinking water!

When I did the 50 hour service on my BX23, there was no metalic debris to speak of. I let the oil settle and when I poured it out of the drain pan, there was almost no metal flecks in the bottom of the drain pan.
I will be doing the 300 hour service this weekend and will report back on how it looks this time.
I would be worried if the oil came out looking metalic. That metal has to be coming from somewhere... more than just break-in.
