My MF231 has an oil bath filtration system for the air cleaner. I cleaned the oil cup and all the wire mesh this evening.

Ok, so the oil cup has 2 parts to it. Inner and outer cups... My question is should I fill up only the outer part of the oil cup, or both the outer and inner parts of the cup? The inner cup has 6 tiny holes all the way around it. I'm getting different opinions on this question from research.

Thanks

Fill it as the owners manual states. Cheaper than buying a new engine.

I completely agree. But my tractor is second hand and the pages are torn out of the original owner's manual that came with the tractor.

Are there oil fill marks on the cleaner? There was on my Ford.

Yes there is an "exact oil level" marking on the outside of the oil cup... But should I also fill the inner cup to that line too? If I fill the inner cup up with oil, the oil will be right below the 6 tiny holes that go around the inner cup.

I believe that line is just for the outer.

Fill up both parts to the oil fill line. Put the same weight of oil into it as what you put into engine.

How sure are you on this? I can't afford to ruin my engine. I just want to be sure.

Thank You

So that line IS for both sides? I had a oil bath in a ford truck never a tractor.

Iam postive. Have ran and still run tractors with oil bath air cleaner. Also have one on my old 3 ton grain truck. If anything your more likely to hurt the engine with too little oil than too much.
