Dozernut,
Great picture! I was trying to explain to the kids what would happen if the power went off AND we were snow bound for a couple days. Your photo is what they imagined!.

Re: \"Oh the weather outside...\"

Well, here in Sharpsburg, MD, about 24" of the white stuff has fallen.

I haven't attempted to move any of the stuff since the tractor is covered with a tarp and I have to dig it out to begin the process.... waiting for the strorm to abate... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Got up this morning and found that everything around the house is drifted. The wind kept on changing directions, the house is a Cape Cod, so the darn'd snow has rolled off the roof. So, some hand digging is to commence. The poor dog is having a problem finding his favorite spot. Ya ever see a dog with crossed legs and bulging eyes... pitiful. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif The cat just turns his back to the open door in disgust. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

One of my neighbors plowed my driveway three times yesterday. Usually, by the time I got up to see what was going on, he was done and moving on to another neighbor. I finally was able to get his attention on his last pass and I thanked him and said what the heck are ya doin'. His reply was a big grin and a loud, "I'm playing in the snow.", while he was bouncing on the seat of his Kubota. Now, to see an ex-marine, retired school teacher, about 6' tall bouncing with that "you know what" grin on his face is a sight to behold.... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So, I guess I need to fuel up and get to work... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Re: \"Oh the weather outside...\"

Our local airport lists our snowfall as 9". I beg to differ..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I've got 16" on our deck, and thats in an area that doesn't get much blowing/drifting. I did the drive Saturday and again yesterday. Looks like I haven't even touched it this morning. The dog and I did venture out to get the newspaper, but that's all we've done so far.
We're used to maybe 3" at any one time, so 16" is measurable for us. Wifey just called down the steps and said it's snowing again.

Sometimes amazing, but not unusual, what big differences in weather can occur in short distances. We had solid clouds all day and temperatures in the 30s, but that was all; however two people not far from here told me they "saw" snowflakes in the air, then on the TV news last night, they showed the snow on the roofs and lawns of houses just 6 or 7 miles from us. Sunny this morning, though, 32 supposedly going to the high 50s!

Re: \"Oh the weather outside...\"

I just returned from a week in the Pinehurst, NC area where I enjoyed a week of golf in 55 degree weather. I had to plow 13 in. of snow from my drive, to escape to the Southland and narrowly escape the big storm in DC. on my return trip. My driveway is piling up with snow today at the rate of 2"/hr, expecting about 16"-20" total. I was SO LUCKY to find this window of time to get this trip in without having to cancel plans that were made last year. Sometimes good stuff happens! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ...RayBee

Re: \"Oh the weather outside...\"

We were in the snow total bullseye for sure. I measured 28" out in the middle of the yard. Lots more in the drifts.

It was too much to push with the blade so I ended up having to scoop it up in the FEL. Let's see - 350 feet of driveway clearing a 9 foot path with a 3 foot FEL. I did 3 hours this morning (see attachment) and was only half-way done.

But even when I get my driveway done, the subdivision hasn't cleared the road yet. Neighbor who usually does it had his 3pt hydraulics go down yesterday so now he's calling around for someone to come in. yeah right. No way I can do 3/4 mile of 30" deep snow with my little B6100, 36" FEL. And I'm almost out of diesel anyway.

Looks like we may get out with the next that - which they forecast for tomorrow thru Friday anyway....

Back at it.

Re: \"Oh the weather outside...\"

I can't ever remember having this much snow at one time especially with these drifts - unbelievable!. Now I understand my friends in Buffalo and Syracuse.

I have to admit though - With my Kubota tractor I feel a little like the fellow in Police Academy with the itchy trigger finger. I just can't wait to do my driveway (750') again - neighbors are "no doubt" jealous OR more likely they think I am a nut.

Re: \"Oh the weather outside...\"

weatherman keeps saying for us here in northern Ct, 30 inches. It is at least 15 now and we still have half or more of the storm to go. Will get in the trusty John Deere 710 at 1 this morning and probably not gethome until late tomorrow.. Will be a great plowing season this year.

Bill,

We plowed 1/2 mile with 31" snow over hilly terrain. We put 12 hours on the tractor over the weekend, including a trip to the gas station. Normally, I get some strange looks when I drive the tractor into town, but with all of that snow I didn't look out of place. I have a 68" bucket, so you would have had a lot my seat time than me, but think of the gratitude you would have received from your neighbors. My neighbor on our one side is taking me & the misses out for dinner this Friday. Oh the neighbor on the other side of us, the one's with the 800ft driveway & 400ft of road for their exclusive use, gave me two slices of pound cake. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif BTW, on the news, they said that anyone with FEL was getting $150-300/hr. Assuming my FEL work was only worth $100/hr, that's a couple tractor payments I could have earned. I didn't have the heart to tell my wife she was eating a $200 slice of pound cake. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif The sad part, if we get 30" of snow next weekend, I'll be out there again. You may have guessed it, but I'm not in it for the money. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: \"Oh the weather outside...\"

Our homeowner's association (which is responsible for snow removal on the road anyway) ended up paying $150 / hour for two guys - one on a big Cat TLB and one in a Pickup truck snowplow to clear the road. A bargain, I'd say.

Our normal plan is to clear the road ourselves - he has a big Ford 2wd with a back blade and me with my little B6100. But his 3pt hydraulics quit working and it was just too much for my tractor this time.

Going to town to get fuel on the B6100 is not an option. It's at least 10 miles. I'd barely make it either way on a full tank. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: \"Oh the weather outside...\"

Snow removal update......

I've spent nearly 10 hrs removing snow from my driveway, my neighbors driveway, and moving assorted neighborhood snowpiles. I got a call from another neighbor last night asking me to bust him out of his place. He called our local plowing service (a neighbor who does our subdivision) and was refused. He called another neighbor with a B2400 and he said he really couldn't help him. So, he remembered that I had a tractor and me and my friend, John Deere, will be going out to dig him out. The poor guy has a wife and two little ones stuck back in the woods. Since Saturday!!!! Needless to say, he sounded a bit shell-shocked when he called last evening.

The home owners association president called yesterday to help in cutting out some channels in the low spots of our roads. Our subdivision has nearly six miles of roads and some of the spots lay in ravines. These spots have three to four foot snow banks from plowing and will act as dams. The weather report for this weekend is calling for heavy rain in our area. The last time this happened (1996) half of West Virginia's and Maryland's low laying properties floated down the Potomac River. The flotsom and jetsom was a sight to behold - sheds, travel trailers, propane tanks, you name it, was swept away.

Oh well, time to get suited up, warm up my friend, and get to work.

So like you guys are making me jealous. Here is a pic of my front yard. The weather isn't frightful. Come on, this is February in Minnesota. I should have lots of snow. But like I said earlier, I am seeing some green tint in my grass, Im banking on the mowing season
