O- ring needed or not

I'm wondering because this o ring is too large how to compensate is it needed if I am using silicone as a gasket?

Not only too large, but the diameter of the rubber is too small.

I would take the measurements, go to a hydraulic shop and buy one that fits.

And not use silicone

Agree. O-Ring seal is a much better solution.
Get help sizing it right and you'll never have to worry about it again.
