My NX6010 float function has never worked. I have looked through the archives and seen that others have had float function problems and have solved it by removing the cover of the float mechanism and lubricating it. My problem is that I cannot remove the cover. There appears to be a mechanical lock preventing it from being removed. I have pushed the joystick with such force trying to enter float mode that I have broken the cast aluminum selector. All other joystick functions move freely. Can anyone who has removed the cover offer a suggestion about how to remove the cover from the spool? I have thought about cutting it with a Dremel; however, the cover is not available for purchase separately. Thankfully, the aluminum selector is available at a reasonable cost. The workshop manual does not show the cover removed from the spool, and no parts catalog that I have seen shows the cover removed from the spool.

Thanks to PMJG207 for dropping this link in my NX thread.

Anyway, my doors are still frozen shut on my NX so I cannot open up a door to look and it has been eight years since I had it apart but seems to me there is a little slidy thingy to move out of the way and a tab and the rubber cover pops upward after removing the grey plastic cover.

Eric, thanks for the reply. The cover I am having trouble with is the longer metal canister-type cover that is attached to the bottom of the valve unit. This covers the detent mechanism for the spool that operates the boom of the FEL. In the parts diagram you linked above, the part does not have a number but is shown plainly in the box's lower right corner still attached to the valve body.

Once I removed the 2 bolts, I remember having to have the joystick in a certain position for it to come off. Can't remember exactly what it was. I just played with it until it slid off. There was virtually no lube in it. I took both off, filled with lithium grease and it worked like a charm afterwards. If I were to guess, the joystick was fully forward.

Thanks, Kioti Dave. I have removed bolts, pulled the joystick back which drops cover about 1/2 inch, placed spacers between cover and valve body, and tried to force it off by pushing forward on the joystick. When you had yours apart, did you see anything that could prevent the spool from moving enough to go into float? My problem is not one of the detent not working or sticking. It will not move forward enough to float. It just lifts the front of tractor off the ground.

Were you able to get cover off? Mine did have some rust since there was virtually no lube. Maybe pull back on joystick and try remove cover? My guess is it needs to be cleaned and lubed. I did struggle getting that cover off. I think there is a groove in the cap that the balls have to move over. Mine had a similar problem of having a heck of a time pushing into float, and then to get out. Maybe fill the cap with oil or something to loosen the balls in there?? Again, it was a couple years ago, and i am getting old.

Did not try again today. Took most of day to replace the joystick selector that I broke trying to force float mode. The replacement was made much more difficult because of the thick paint on everything. Was also very surprised by the corrosion on the joystick cables. Bought this tractor new in summer of 2018 and have stored it inside except when being used. I has less than 200 hours. Cleaned the connections and lubed with white lithium grease.

Yea, once you get the cap off, clean and lube everything, you should be good to go. I bought my 2016 new in 2018. Had the float problem in 2020. Should have been lubed much better in my opinion.
