Ever notice how the bow of a ship pushes water aside? Grapple out front does the same. Grapple is about five feet in front of the front wheels. Besides, if you are in thick brush, you will have a grapple full after driving forward only a short distance. If you are in thin brush, well that is just like driving a tractor with mower through. I've really never been stopped because brush hit the tractor. What else can I say?

Water and brush are two different things. Speaking of water, when things dry up here I'll show you why your "smaller is better" doesn't work for me.

I never knew water and brush were different but it seems they behave the same way when a powerful wedge is driven into them. They both part and allow the bulkier "hull" to move through.

There are tasks like carrying firewood that are obviously going to be more efficient with either a wider grapple or just a standard bucket. I don't doubt that some special task can be designed to favor wide either. My point has always been that OVERALL, a lighter, narrower single lid grapple is the most versatile, least expensive and easiest to store. No question narrow is best for digging. No question light weight is best for lifting heavy objects. Narrow can carry more brush than you can see around when driving. Best for maneuvering in the woods or near structures.

And, don't take my word for it. Find us a post from someone on TBN who bought a light narrow grapple and then decided to trade up for a wide heavy dual jaw grapple. I don't recall anyone doing that in over ten years discussing grapples here but I know that even wide grapple owners have bought narrow grapples the second time around. I still think 48 is best all around and 50, 54 are essentially the same. 60 would be tops for me and that would be giving up digging power so there would need to be a good reason to do that.

I have to chuckle when you say that you'll post "when things dry up here". I just spent 10 days in the Seattle area and it may be a while before we hear from you.
