Today I am out chipping brush when my tractor rpm's drop down to 1500 then go to an idle. I'm running the PTO at 540rpm's. I closed the throttle and start to raise it until the motor won't go any higher. The rpm's made it to 2000 rpm's before the CEL light came on and the motor dropped back to an idle. Moving the throttle back down to mid range causes the motor to rev back up, but only to 2000.. If I go any higher the CEL light comes on and the motor returns to an idle. I then checked the air filter. It is clean, as in like new. Next I unscrewed the water drain plug on the fuel filter. There is no water in the fuel. I decided to run a regen cycle on the tractor. The throttle lever is at an idle. The motor ran at 1500 rpm's for about 10 minutes. Then it automatically switched over to 2600 rpm's for a good 20 minutes. Then it switched back to the 1500 rpm's and finally back to an idle. I figured that I would be all set now as it ran at 2600 rpm's for a good 20 minutes. That was not the case. I cranked the rpm's back up to 2000 with no issues. As soon as I go over that the CEL light comes on solid and the rpm's drop to an idle. Does anyone have an idea as to what would cause this insanity with my tractor. Right now I am letting it cool down. I'm going to disconnect the battery to see if that will reset the ECM and try it one more time in about an hour.

I went out and without doing anything fired my tractor up. It ran fine for an hour using the chipper. Then out of the blue it started acting up all over again. The highest rpm's that I could get was 2000. I'll try it again tomorrow. This time I'll pull the battery cable. This is really starting to irk me. This tractor only has 317 hours on it.

Do you get an ERR code at the hour meter? That might help track it down.

This time of year I have to do more frequent grille and radiator screen cleaning due to dust & "fluffy" weed seeds - temp gauge look good?

I didn't even think of looking there as I didn't know it had codes that showed up. I'll go out and try to make it do it again now.

Keep us posted...I'm at the 200 hour mark and getting ready for R&R of hyd. fluid and filters plus fuel filter.

When was the last time you regenerated?

My tractor is a 2014. The tractor was doing the same thing for 5 minutes tonight after startup. I kept flipping the throttle from idle to full position. It went up to full throttle for about 5 minutes and dropped back down to an idle. Then it started to cycle from idle to PTO throttle all by itself. It did this for about 5 minutes then went to an idle. I then pulled the throttle back to idle and ran the re-gen cycle. Afterwards it would not go over 2000 rpm's. There was no error code on the hour meter.

Hi Eric, I had a re-gen light once at around 75 hours. I ran it then but never since.

Warm it up and manually regenerate it. I think your exhast filter is plugging up your machine. That is what happened to my machine.

I did that again tonight and it didn't make any difference. ?????? Is there a OBD2 plug on this machine? During the regen it ran for almost 30 miutes at 2600 rpm's. The exhaust is not plugged. It might be getting a bad reading which is putting it into limp mode.

OBD2? Yes. Under the hood above the radiator and another plug with the fuse box under the screwed down trim on the cab models.

Thanks Eric, I'll need to dig out my scanner and check it out hopefully tonight.

what kind of scanner treads tractor codes?
I have a Bosch OBDII and hooked it up but will not recognize any connection other then autos.
TIA

Hi Eric, My OBD2 Actron scanner will not communicate with my tractor. I bought this back in 2008. I think it may be obsolete for newer vehicles. It also does not have a tractor listing, only cars and trucks.

My OBD2 scanner would not read the codes or anything else on my tractor. I borrowed a much newer Centek scanner from my boss and tried that tonight. I couldn't read the codes but I could see what was going on. First of all I did clear the codes. Not sure if it did anything because it couldn't read them. So here is a list of anything that I thought important. At an idle the FRP-PSI was 134- 146. Catemp 32 catemp12 when first running was 370 degrees. VPWR (V) 14.17 Tac.PCT 94.1 EGR PCT 12.5 EGR ERR 0- .9 Baro PSI was .9 While running on regen here is what I had at 2600 rpm's . Tac PCT down to 15.7% CATEMP 1121 degrees I expect. EGREMP 0, EGRERR 0, When it went back to 1600 after the high speed regen the TACPCT went back up to 94.1 FRPSI was 40-42. The tractor will not run over 2000 rpm's consistently. If I leave it at full throttle it will cycle sometimes back and forth from idle to full throttle all by it self. Anything over 2000RPM"s makes the CEL light come on. On regen the tractor will run at 2600 wide open for a good 20 minutes which tells me there is no fuel blockage issue.

No fuel blockage- good summary
full 2600 rpm probably would not happen if the filter was even partially plugged, right?, not sure taking a stab at it.

So maybe a need for a ECM reflash?

Any feed back from your dealer? do they have the data that you posted here?

Regards..

I did not buy my tractor locally. I bought it as a leftover for a lot less than a new one. The cost to buy this locally would have cost me an extra $6500.00. The nearest dealer is 30 miles away. I have not contacted him as I was hoping to have an idea of what is wrong first. There is no fuel blockage as it runs for almost 30 minutes on regen at 2600 rpm's. I'd have to borrow a friend's trailer to bring it there. That just may be what needs to be done. I'm going to check a few more things this weekend to see if it helps any.

Check alternator voltage output above 2000 rpm. I had an alternator shell that triggered the CEL only after 2,000. I had no loss of power, however.

The alternator s fine. The CEL light comes on just as the motor starts to sputter and go back to an idle. Once the motor goes under 2000 rpms the CEL light goes out. If you raise the throttle while it is messing up, the CEL light comes on as you reach 2000 rpms. I sent a email to Kioti explaining what is happening. Maybe they can answer this issue.

@JimR
Don't hold your breath waiting on Kioti. Hope I'm wrong and you do get a response.
Just that I have never gotten a response from them.
Most likely they will tell you to see your dealer.
Thanks for keeping us posted Most unusual for sure.
