Today I am out chipping brush when my tractor rpm's drop down to 1500 then go to an idle. I'm running the PTO at 540rpm's. I closed the throttle and start to raise it until the motor won't go any higher. The rpm's made it to 2000 rpm's before the CEL light came on and the motor dropped back to an idle. Moving the throttle back down to mid range causes the motor to rev back up, but only to 2000.. If I go any higher the CEL light comes on and the motor returns to an idle. I then checked the air filter. It is clean, as in like new. Next I unscrewed the water drain plug on the fuel filter. There is no water in the fuel. I decided to run a regen cycle on the tractor. The throttle lever is at an idle. The motor ran at 1500 rpm's for about 10 minutes. Then it automatically switched over to 2600 rpm's for a good 20 minutes. Then it switched back to the 1500 rpm's and finally back to an idle. I figured that I would be all set now as it ran at 2600 rpm's for a good 20 minutes. That was not the case. I cranked the rpm's back up to 2000 with no issues. As soon as I go over that the CEL light comes on solid and the rpm's drop to an idle. Does anyone have an idea as to what would cause this insanity with my tractor. Right now I am letting it cool down. I'm going to disconnect the battery to see if that will reset the ECM and try it one more time in about an hour.
