This is one specific city, and it's almost certainly related to noise nuisance. I don't think it represents the rest of California.
I'm surprised there is even that significant acreage in Oakland to make this law a problem, given the population density there.

Since 1980 I've been doing hillside fire suppression with handlebar trimmers...

The terrain is rugged and taxing covering many acres...

Now illegal to use gas powered trimmers and herbicide is also problematic as root structure is to remain providing soil stabilization...

It's just nuts...
I would get with about a thousand others who are in the same boat with you, go to city hall, scare the hell (protest) out of the city counsel and then go do what you need to do—cut brush—out of defiance.

Reminder: political commentary will be deleted. You can discuss specific policies related to the use of equipment but please keep your opinions about California out of the topic.

Sent from my beach chair watching surfers and waves in San Diego. 😄 🏄‍♂️🏖️

Read while sitting on a box in a basement taking a break from air handler preventative maintenance filter change. Only 144 more filters to go. :cautious:

😝

One town south of me is very environmentally conscious. They were the first around here to ban plastic bags and they recently banned gas lawn tools. In my town however, they still allow it and I'm guessing they will until the state mandates otherwise. Probably 2030-2035 or so is my guess, similar to the timeline on gas powered vehicles.
I live out in the countryside, with only one neighbor to tattle on me, and they have as much, if not more, to be tattled on than I do.

Kind of a mutually assured destruction. I let them do what they want, they let me do what I want and we get along just fine.

I'm sure eventually the battery powered stuff (or maybe something even better will come along) will be as good as the gas stuff is now. Course creating lithium batteries isn't exactly a clean process, but not many want to think about that.

Here in California we can hardly keep the lights on during peak power usage, adding all the new battery powered cars, tools etc, with no new generation plants is just going to make things worse.

Oakland hills. Had a really bad fire there some years ago. bunches of houses burned to the ground...in part because people weren't allowed to cut brush back and in part because the FD left the scene too soon and it reignited (it my memory serves me correctly.)

Nope! :ROFLMAO: I'm actually working from home watching my daughter, trying to save up for her college fund and pay off my overpriced house. No beach for me today.

You just stay there on the left coast and make us all good TBN citizens. As the song says '...only concern is will the tide reach your chair.'
