Notes for RTV1100 owners part 2 (do not install tracks!)

This is baffling to me, and I really think that Kubota is going to run backward on this one, don't know as I would blame them till a lot of questions are answered.

I retract the above and think Kubota has a problem area that they need to fix, and if the somewhat vague report that they have stopped replacing the broken parts is true, I think they will have a problem if the issue is pressed.

As I was having coffee in the diner this morning and kicking the stripped spline around I really thing it is a torque problem and I am sure that mine is doing it also. The added torque of the tracks or the power it takes to turn them. The heavy equipment guys say that any spline will do that. Hydraulic pumps are notrious for it. They say that there is a bit of movement there and every few month it should be lubed. One guy said that the front mount hyd pump on his skidder did the same thing.

It might be the torque induced when slowing down more than speeding up. All that torque multiplying works both ways.

Nothing on mine is modfied. The wheel lug bolts were taken out and the wheels replace with tracks using the same lug bolts.

Except you modified it with tracks .....

Kubota could easily deny warranty due to that modification.

I know it's frustrating to buy an expensive piece of equipment and have it break, especially after tossing tons of $$ modifying it.

Heck I'm about due for a new one anyway. I want another 900 with a heated Curtis cab.
I know a guy that has a PUG with tracks and he does not have this problem. Am I to think that Kubota with their vast resources can not build a machine that is as good as the PUG that came on the market over 40 years ago. I will reserve all judgement until all the reports are in.

Are you using the mattracks XTUR tracks or are using the M3UR tracks.

Hello Gents

I have some new info but first to answer milkman's question, yes the hub is OEM Kubota part. Next, the Kubota dealer is blaming mattracks (suprise). And I will go down that road with you guys later if need be but for now our mechanic has a theory on this problem that I feel needs consideration. If you look at the first picture you will see the drive shaft exiting through the bearing. The hub obviously slides over the drive shaft until it hits the face of the bearing and is tightened against there from the threaded area. Here is his point, the hub, when slid over the driveshaft does not contact the inside diameter of the bearing. The inside diameter of the bearing is larger than the outside diameter of the hub by some margin that I am currently unaware of but I will measure it and post the info. That is right.....the hub is only making contact with the driveshaft spline and the face of the bearing. That means the whole area you see on the inside diameter of the bearing is not being used as a load surface at all. We are going to bring this info up to Kubota and see what they say. It may be likely that we might not be the last people they hear about on this issue. Quite frankly we would hope this info helps them design a better product. Perhaps this is not all of it, maybe the hub material is suspect also as the spline was completely gone off that part but the driveshaft spline looked much better. Some food for thought anyways. I'll report back soon.

Also, questioning extra load or torque statements, we only have 25 hp to deliver as well as hi pressure hydro bypass circuits. These limitations should be designed to not allow excessive forces to the major damage point as far as load goes. Certainly open for more thoughts and opinions though as I am not a design engineer of any sorts.


Questions about modifying by adding tracks are valid. However, the Kubota salesman was fully aware we were only considering this machine if it would handle the tracks. From several of our members he was questioned on this. The machine was purchased to install tracks onto.

Then what to heck is the bearing in there for? As I see it, it makes only face contact with the hub. If all its there for is face contact a thrust bearing would have been better. I wonder how many of them or out there like that. My gut feeling is that Kubota is going to have a red face over this.
