Notary on a SUNDAY????

Does anyone know of a place of business or something that is open on a sunday that notarizes titles.

Long story short, I have a guy comming to take a second look at a truck I am selling tomorrow morning(sunday). I don't like having titles signed/notarized UNTIL I know for sure the truck is sold or I have cash in hand.

It would not be a huge deal except the guy is comming from about 3 hours away. Sunday is the only time in the near future we are both avaliable to meet. I know two people who are/were notarys so it normally isn't a problem. But the one person let theirs expire in july and the other is on vacation and won't be back until monday.

I may just have to wait until monday and mail or even hand deliver him the title. But I also understand that as a buyer, a person would be reluctant to had over cash WITHOUT an open title in hand as well.

You might try local law enforcement. My wife works in dispatch and she and few others are notaries. If none are, they may know of someone who can help you.

Many times Church Secretaries are notaries...My Mrs. is both.

Thanks for all the quick responses.

Most of those places are either closed around here on sunday, or a good drive away.

And the local sherrif, highway patrol, and village police, None have notarys working.

I was able to find one though. I don't know why i didn't think of it sooner:confused2:. Got on c-list and searched the services for notary and got a ton of results. One ended up being just 5 minutes away.

Just for some info on mobile notaries.
When I retired from the US Navy, I had a friend who got me started conducting closings on Re-fi's and sales in the real estate community.
I was very successful and had many people working for me as well.
Then every Tom, Dick and Harry started in the business. Then the bottom fell out of the Re-fi's and real estate market, then I moved on.
Look for them in the yellow pages, on-line or call a Title and Escrow company - they know where to get one fast.

Not much help now, but any miliary officer above 04 can be a notary.

How much do ya'll pay for notary service in your area?

In SC you get rich being a notary- see the quote below from the SC Secretary of State Office-

"12. May I charge for my services as a notary public?

You have the authority to charge the following fees for services rendered:
25¢ per document sheet for taking depositions and swearing witnesses;
10¢ for each document sheet containing up to 100 words for duplicating depositions,
protests and certificates;
50¢ for each attendance upon any person for proving a matter or thing and certifying
the same;
50¢ for every notarial certificate with seal/stamp;
25¢ for each administration of oath for affidavits;
50¢ plus postage for transmitting notice of a protest; and
$1.00 for taking a renunciation of dower or inheritance."



...frankly I don't know why anyone would bother being one unless their job required it. I occasionally see a sign in front of someone's home saying tey are a notary- I wouldn't want strangers stopping by my house for such big money

I'd guess the going rate in my area for a notary is $2.50-$5

I do it nothing more as a favor for people I know.

Two three hour classes at the community college, an exam and a $50 class fee.

Kind of like that odd tool you only use once a year. You never really use it, but you're glad you have it when you need it.

Pretty sure when I was growing up in Maine a notary could perform marriages.
