I'm an assistant leader in the Scout Troop my son is in. It is my opinion, that there should be a sewing merit badge, and that it should be Eagle required.

Amen to that. Sewing is a skill that can always come in handy. Once, as a poor student one of the rubber front CV boots on my 4wd pickup got a tear in it. I did not have the time, the money, the tools or the know how to pull the axle and put a new boot on. So, I got under there with a big surgical needle and some heavy nylon line and sewed that sucker up tight after stuffing it with grease. That boot remained on the truck for the rest of its life.

I once used those little smiley faces in a post... you know the emoticons my daughter and her friends love to use when they message each other.

I'm still embarrassed to admit it.

That would be this one::eek:

:D

I think you are on to something there. I like the emoticons. They can help a great deal. Seriously. But, the TBN emoticons are down right silly looking...well, except this one::eek: , which I like. Let's face it, this site is mostly occupied by manly men (making gorrila noises). Couldn't we get some emoticons that wouldn't seem silly, even to our daughters? Come on Muhammad, there have got to be some Manicons out there?

About the only occasions where I've had a close brush with sissified activity would be related to sewing. The first project was when I was about 16ys old I made a shirt for myself. It was sort of a personal challenge type thing just to see if I could do it. Only problem there was I didn't really think ahead that I might actually wear the thing so I just made it out of whatever scrap material I could find. The sleeves and pocket didn't match the body. Then when it was done the shirt fit me pretty darn nice and I wanted to wear it so I did. Safe to say no one before or after has ever had a shirt just like that one.

The next project (sewing) about that same time I reupholstered a reclining chair.

The last (about a year ago) sewing project was to upholster a window seat in an old Victorian that I own. I really felt out of place shopping in all the fabric stores for the right material.
I want to make it very clear though that I only use a very manly commercial sewing machine.:)

Then there was the time in high school when I thought that taking typing might be a great career move. Of course there was that fact that the class was nothing but girls, yea that might have had a little to do with that decision. But it didn't turn out all that well, see my sister ended up in the same class and the teacher seated us alphabetically by our last names so I ended up at the end of the row with my sister seated next to me. Bummer!!:(

Hey.. don't knock typing.. I hated that class but at our high school it was mandatory for freshmen. I'm glad i took it. It provided me some decent work after school. While I'm no 'secretary'.. I can easilly bang out 90+wpm pretty accurately... that has been a decent skill I've used from day one..

I watch Sponge Bob Squarepants with my granddaughter, we have tea parties and she pretends to paint my fingernails. Not very manly but I really enjoy the time with her and wouldn't trade it for a fortune.

You're not sissy until you let three grandaughters really color your nails (with crayons) and wear it to work.

I remember in my younger days I made some brownies. Seems one of the ingredients consisted of rope material. I may have used a pink bowl, or it may have been that my eyes were red and it just appeared that way. One thing I know, the more I ate, the more I wanted to eat. That's kind of a girly thing ain't it, craving/gorging yourself with chocolate? That was a long time ago, and maybe I don't remember it all correctly. Seems I remember someone telling me that might be a side effect of those type brownies, memory loss, brain damage, etc.

A friend of mine went to sleep at his g-friends house one night instead of heading home... she painted his toenails. he didn't notice it till he was in the shower.. he harped on that one fro a week I guess..

Not so manly? Like wearing my wife underware while working with the tractor?:)

I don't think I distinguish, it's just work to get done and doesn't matter if it's male or female job. See my signature, I think man can do anything the woman does with exception of giving birth and breastfeeding:)

I read People Magazine and others just like it whenever they are around. I'm not sure if that is girlie or just really gay.

Can you have tractor-related non-manly pursuits? When we upgraded our lawn tractor to a SCUT, my wife took quite a shine to it. This surprised me, because she was never comfortable on the utility tractor, and she was indifferent to the lawn tractor. She even claimed it as "her" tractor.

So I went to the Wal-Mart bicycle department and bought every stereotype little girl bicycle accessory. So our SCUT had a little pink basket, purple streamers, a pink horn, and motion-activated star strobes which replace the valve stem caps. The wife really liked it, but it didn't seem quite so funny when I had to take it into the shop for some warrantee work!
