Tractor supply and business seems a lot like automobiles. Kubota and Kioti (Daedong) were in bed together until a falling out. Mitsubishi (Satoh) used to make tractors. They still make engines for a few brands and own stock in tractor brands. Does Yanmar still make John Deere compacts? It's convoluted.

I would argue, Kubota and Kioti were NEVER in bed together. Like a Kubota salesman told me a while back. People come in telling stories they heard of Kubota and Kioti founders being brothers. Amazing rubbish!

Years ago, John Deere was given the Hitachi sales for North America. They handle all sales of equipment and parts in North America. But not the rest of the world. Just as one dealer may sale more than one brand. A lot of customers still think that John Deere purchased the company Hitachi. The fact is John Deere excavators are made by Hitachi with green paint. They have been for years.

I never agreed to that kind of thinking. Buy someone elses machine (a competitor) just to round out your product line. Just complicates things and that's rarely good for the consumer. Maybe, just maybe good for the possibility of getting parts down the road though.

If a company has the ability to build more tractors, but not the distribution, sales, service or parts network why would they not build them for someone that does. If you have the network to sale but can purchase them cheaper than you can build them, why not build them somewhere else? John Deere has the network for all of the ag tractors. They now have a large network for construction and forrestry. Kubota has taken years, but have built their dealers up over time. Without parts, no service, without service no sales, without sales no tractors. When I was a kid, I never dreamed that tractors were make anywhere except the US or that I would ever buy anything except a John Deere.

Personally I think TBN should sponsor a contest to and see who guesses correctly on which of the current manufacturers are the first to go...IMO LS is close to the top of the list...other even lessor known brands have deeper roots and legacies etc...

LS goes back a ways, just not as LS. They've been Montana and LG for sure, and possibly others. I was brushed up on all that before I bought mine, but I have slept since then.

They also make New Holland compacts, so if they go anywhere, it may be a New Holland acquisition. Otherwise, I think they'll stay around. With my G3038, I can go to the New Holland store and buy any part (other than loader) for a same year Workmaster 40 and it's identical. I have both users manuals, and they just changed the logo at the top of the page, and the New Holland doesn't have a column of Korean writing in the parts diagrams.

And New Holland is part of the FCA (Fiat Chrysler) group, soon to be merged with PSA. FCA owns the Case Nd IH brands.
