Hello All:

I posted this in the Attachments discussion, but since you guys have been so helpful in the past, I thought I would try here too.

Here goes:

I bought a 47 in. NorTrac Tiller from Northern Tool. I need replacement tines. The factory tines are cast iron, very brittle and break pretty easily. Any ideas for a replacement set made out of steel? Or if I can't get steel how about the original cast iron ones?

Thanks in advance.

Ed.

Have you tried AgriSupply.com ? They might have something generic that could be made to work, if you know the diameter of the shaft.

Hey Ron:

Thanks for the help but. . .

I looked there at Agri Supply.

The tines are individual tines that bolt onto slots on the shaft. Each slot on the shaft has a hex cutout on one side where the head of the bolt fits into and a hole that the bolt fits through to hold the tine. You then stick the tine into the slot and bolt through the tine/slot. There is a lockwasher and nut on the other side. I think there are 38 tines on the shaft. I see other designs like King Cutter and the newer Jinma have a different configuration than mine. Northern Tool discontinued the 47 in.

Your tiller is set up like the grey market rice tillers. I have had similar experiences w/broken tines on my grey market tiller. In the future I would suggest to always break hard clay and similar soils first with scarifiers, plow etc. before attempting to till using this type of tiller. I loaned mine to a "buddy" and when I got it back it had 3-4 tines left on it. I lucked into a set of tines I stumbled across while stopped a tractor dealer in Missouri, he had about 45-50 of them in a scrap pile and couldn't even remember where he had gotten them. He handed me 2 five gallon buckets and told me to take them and refused for me to pay him for them ( I left $50 bucks on the counter when I left though). Prior to that I had little luck finding them at an affordable price but try these guys.

Try Tillerblades dot com, they have some blade and have a sketch showing hole dimensions. I think their inventory is limted. I've bad luck with the rice tiller design also. I rebuilt my tiller with a new shaft to take the two bolt flange design and now use the King Kutter tines. bjr
