We watched them from Winchester, KY last night. I always enjoyed seeing them from 36000 feet while flying ORD to YEG.

Thursday night, northern PA - about Midnight:

Our electrical power started to sequence on and off...we have outside motion detect lights - they all came on which is what woke me up.

Then they all went off. Then power restored with some of the lights working, others did not. Then they all went off again - 10 to 20 seconds, then partial power would come back, repeating over 20 minutes.

When power came back on, it was like only 1 phase of a 2 phase service was working. I had to unplug the clothes dryer, which was beeping and flashing an error code indicating a power issue.

Once the event finally, finally ended the power fully restored and everything returned to normal except every GFCI in the house had to be reset.

My first thought upon initial waking was the electric company was trying to recover power after a schedule maintenance, nope - try it again...nope-try it again...how about now?

-

But what made it bizarre was though it was night and we had cloud cover, the sky would brighten in different areas at the same time as the power went off...it seemed to light up for 8 to 10 seconds as power was lost, then the brightness in the sky went away and power restored partially, but not fully...the periodic sequencing (light in sky - loss of power, then partial restore) went on for about 20 minutes.

And for further bizarreness: House lights across the lake (which are supplied by a totally separate grid and electric service provider) were going off and on in sequence with our power loss and restore.

Once I noticed the power loss sequence for the houses across the lake, and the coincidental light in the sky, I actually started to consider the possibility of this being an active EMP strike, causing the lighted sky and then loss of power (I dunno, maybe too much time spent on another TBN thread related to preparing for extended power outges)???

I never landed on a reasonable conclusion for what may have caused the event once power restored.

Now in retrospect, suspect it may have actually been the effect of the solar storms and electromagnetic disruptions which are spiking this week...
