Nope, just can\'t do it.

I just can't post a picture. Even though I "resized' it to say 99K it stillsays the file is too large. I'd love to show the world my tractor, property and projects but I have no luck doing it. Any ideas??

Re: Nope, just can\'t do it.

Don't know if it will help but, we use photshop or photoshop elements and down size our large pics to 640x480(I should make them bigger) and do a "save to the web" thats built in to our system so it saves as a jpg file and as i'm doing that it also give options to dumb it down farther, so I could have made a larger but grainy pic.

Terry, if you go into the folder that you saved your photo in and right click and then choose properties you will see the problem. I have attached a picture that shows the properties of one of my picture files. You will notice that even though it says my picture is 71.6 KB it also shows 73,349 bytes. You are just cutting it too close to the 100000 byte limit.

Re: Nope, just can\'t do it.

Spence,

I agree with you on that. I tried posting one and it was way too close to the 100k mark. Drop it down another size and it should work.

1 kilobyte = 1024 bytes
99kb = 101376 bytes

Adobe ImageReady 7.0. Could I have my camera set at too high pixels? (2.2)

Re: Nope, just can\'t do it.

Save it as a jpg. I like to use Adobe Elements as well. It has many of the great features of Photoshop and at $49.99 after rebate, its well worth it. When you save as a jpg, you will be asked for the level of compression, do it at 5 or less. Resize the image to no larger then 640 x 480 pixels. Rat...

Re: Nope, just can\'t do it.

You can also just adjust the compression "quality" or level when doing a "save as" .JPG. I use Microsoft Photo Editor as it is free with Win2000 and WinXP. The attached photo is 900x600 but with a 40% quality factor. That reduces the size down to 72K.

That's my son trying out the tractor for the first time. He'd rather work with the tractor than ride his 4 wheeler. I don't blame him...

Re: Nope, just can\'t do it.

Yes its sneaky how that works. Its all about the power of 2s... or I should say the powers of 2.

It really gets fun if you consider hex. F = 15! And you though 100+9=109 ? nope its =6D! or is that 1101101 ?

Fun to think about

Fred,

I've heard it said that there are 10 kinds of people in the world: those who understand binary numbers, and those who don't. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Back to the original question, I find Irfanview is a great utility for resizing pictures, among other features. And it's freeware. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Nope, just can\'t do it.

I use IrfanView, too. It's small and very useful. You can even do "batch conversions" on entire directories - handy if you want to change a bunch of .bmp's to .jpg's.

Another really good, but much more advanced photo editing freeware is The Gimp. Not the easiest software to install, but it is quite powerful. It has a very convenient "webify" function which allows you to control image degradation for sharing on the Internet.

You know why computer programmers always confuse Halloween and Christmas?

Because OCT 31 = DEC 25.
