In our area it is called Hogging. There is not enough tea in Texas for me to do it (Hogging). When I was a boy we had an old neighbor who would tell the story about his father and some friends who were hogging in a local river. They came across an extremely large catfish in a cave in the river. One man stuck his arm in the fish's mouth in order to run a rope through the gills, to pull it out. The fish clamped down on his arm and almost drowned him. His buddies got him free from the catfish and managed to secure the rope. The men by themselves could not pull the catfish from the river so they engaged one of the horses they were riding to help pull the catfish out. The old guy telling the story said that his father put the catfish at close to two hundred pounds. The guy the fish clamped down on lost hide from his elbow to his wrist.
I cannot vouch for the validity of the tale, it could be a fish story, but the old man swore it was true. I wonder just how big them cats can get?
