Non-Zerk Greasing

When there is no zerk on a metal to metal surface such as MMM deck hangers, mounting bracket, mounting links etc., should one apply grease to these surfaces? Or should one leave them dry. It seems to me that external grease just attracts dirt/grit that is more harmful that a dry friction surface. Be it known, that I have greased all these places for years but am now wondering about it. Be it also known that nothing lasts forever. So what are your thoughts?

My old garden tractor manuals suggest using 30W, applied with a oil can.

Hit them with white lithium grease in a spray can. Fast and easy. Usually it will skin over a bit once the solvent evaporates and not attract that much dust.

Thanks. I've noticed how that Lithium grease in a spry can does "skin over" versus regular bulk grease that stays tacky. That and the 30W oil does wipe off later when one is cleaning/servicing things. When I tried a synthetic grease on such places, it's really hard to clean off later when servicing.

Ironically traditional grease and especially the synthetics are engineered to resist washing off and remain tacky!!

If you dont want lithium, look for something "Dry Film". It will leave a dust resistant coating.
