Noise Reduction - Cab vs No Cab

they need to have a special hook to hang them when getting on/off the tractor.

I use the steering wheel, you just have to make sure to put them on your head before making any sharp turns.

I speculate the three cylinder engine is assembled to closer tolerances than standard 'L' engines, in Japan, plus better exhaust muffling.

The mufflers are different. But main source of noise is the HST. Standard L's hst is noisy.

This video that I made came to mind on noise reduction since I open and close the cab door.

2005 John Deere 4320 in Ohio winter 2017 - YouTube

It's winter time and the hot of the summer that cabs get nice, when the wind is howling and it's -10 outside I can operate very comfortably with a radio, same when the sun is hot, A/C really makes a nice experience.

On my tractor the noise is reduced about 40-50% enough to not need head phones and be a pleasant experience even at full throttle.

In that video I was running about 1500-1600 RPM, my exhaust shoots forward and downward away from the cab.

The mufflers are different. But main source of noise is the HST. Standard L's hst is noisy.

And different tractors have different noise issues too. The Kubota M59 is overbuilt with lots of metal and shielding and a HST with six speeds in 3 ranges. The HST must be quiet, it certainly doesn't have much - if any - noticible hydrostatic whine. But the exhaust is directed towards the front wheel and thence back to the operator. That's the main source of smoke and noise.
The M59 is a marvelous machine, but the exhaust is unfortunate....Though apparently not enough so as to make me want to put a cab on it.

I went from an L3800 to a L4060 Cab, night and day difference in noise reduction having a cab, the benefit of working with air conditioning and heat is great, plus no dust or bugs, it's nice working all day in comfort and I don't need to take a shower when I get home from job sites from being filthy.

My exhaust runs up the right hand side of my cab terminating right at roof elevation and pointing to the outside edge with a slight bend. I cant hear any of the motor noise from the cab nor see any exhaust plume. All is super quiet.

I think it's been said before but I had a nice reminder of the joys of a cab. Was mowing a place with a commercial zero turn on demo that I would usually use my big tractor on. Since it's still in the shop, I was forced to try something else. As I'm mowing along, I get lit up by ground hornets. Got my neck and head before I could hammer down and escape at 10 mph. If I could get a cab on the zero turn I would

How much noise reduction do you get with a model that comes with a factory cab compared against the same model without a cab? I'm considering the L series.

If your whole decision about a cab or no cab is based on noise level; by all means get the cab.
For most of the work I do, haying type work, I can't imagine doing it on an open station. (dust, bugs and did I mention dust)
However there are times when I wish I had both. The conditions would have to be just right to use an open station to prepare my field for seeding or leveling.
I think you need to consider what type of work you are going to do the most with your tractor and then decide how comfortable you would like to be.
The kind of work below tells the whole story for me. I think the AC was set on #2 speed and I was listening to old country songs, and breathing just fine.:cool2:

Oh how I know that feeling. The ROP on my tractor hit a hornets nest hanging in my apple orchard. Felt like a firing squad with high powered pellet guns had shot at me, all with excellent aim. First the pain! :confused2: Then came the welts!

Haven't noticed any louder noise over the sound of the AC.

I recently upgraded to a L3430HSTC from a L3010 that had an aftermarket sims cab.

Much quieter on the newer one. Stereo is nice. Same with heat in the winter and AC in the summer. No dust and no angry bees when brush hogging.

I have owned several cab tractors and gave db checked them all.
2005 kubota l3430hstc =84db
2008 kubota l3240hstc =77db
2006 john deere 3320 cab =77db

I bought my L3240 cab new in 2008. When it was new it had very noticable hydro whine and it was always louder under a load. This is completely normal. I have found out that part of the whine is due to it needing to be broke in. At aprox 700hrs its just about completely gone, very little whine to speak of. The cab is very quiet and no need for any ear protection at all. I have almost 3000 hours on my 3240 now and it still runs like new! No oil use no oil leaks no trans problems and a/c still cold!
Cabs are worth every penny you pay. I hit a underground bumblebee nest yesterday bushoging and i was covered in bees trying to get in my cab!! I also hit a underground hornet nest a few years back!!
