My son was using my tractor and the loader controller started spewing a lot of fluid so I told him to raise the bucket and disconnect the lines going to the loader. He said the tractor didn't make it to the barn so I went out and started it and it makes a terrible sound coming from the center of the case behind the motor when the rpm goes up and down from midrange. The hoses going to the controller are not hooked together and could the pump be making this noise due to it trying to move the hydraulic fluid and it not being able to circulate? the tractor is still 100 yds from my pole barn.

Probably not a good idea to disconnect the lines to the the loader control. A lot of loader control valves contain the pressure regulator and return. Depending on what he undid it could be hard on things. Hook it back up and limp it the 100 yards......fluid is relatively cheap. If the leak is so bad it can’t be driven obviously you will be making a “field repair”

Another thought is whatever was unhooked has caused the valve to be in constant pressure relief. That sound isn’t to pleasant but won’t damage things in short bursts.
