No return fuel

The tank on my D2350 leaked all the fuel out over a 2-3 month period. I didn't check the fuel level before I started the tractor. It ran fine for a few minutes then died. Not thinking, I tried to start it a few times and it would run for a few seconds then die. I finally thought to check the fuel level and found there was none.

At this point I decided to fix the tank but the bottom was rotted out with numerous pin holes, so I had my neighbor weld up a new tank.

I installed the tank and bled the new fuel filter assembly, injector pump and injectors.

While I was bleeding the injectors I wound up bumping the return lines, creating a small fuel leak, so I removed the old return lines and installed new ones.

After cranking the tractor I noticed that no fuel was going back into the tank. I removed the return hose from the tank and held it below the level of the injectors but still no fuel. I connected the return hose back into the tank and let the tractor run for another 10-15 minutes and finally saw a little spurting of return fuel but it seemed like it wasn't enough, although I had never looked to see how much fuel was being returned with the old tank.

Anyway, all that to ask: how much fuel should I have being returned? Is this small amount of return fuel a problem that should be looked in to?

Someone with more knowledge can correct me if I'm wrong but return fuel is only the fuel that leaks past the internals of the injectors and injection pump. There should be some but it doesn't have to be a lot.

Pmsmechanic is correct. Ideally there would be no fuel returning but because of how injector valves work there will be a slight amount that needs to be bled and it is sent to the return line going to the tank. Yes, it is a very small amount be worth capturing none-the-less.
