Tractor
Branson 4225h, Mahindra 2516, several Toro Wheel Horse 522xi machines.
I've happened upon a nice used New Holland TC33 tractor that never had a loader installed. (This tractor would be a field mower. I already have another tractor with loader)

My question: How much does the lack of a loader reduce the value of a modern used CUT? In other words, if this tractor was sitting side by side with an identical one WITH a loader, what would the ballpark price difference be?

A couple thousand dollars? More?

Would the "no loader" value apply to most all brands of tractors? Is there kind of a rule of thumb that applies across the board?

No I didn't, but thanks.

I've found that the real world experience of others is often more accurate and valuable than the asking prices at TractorHouse, etc.

I think it would be pretty close to whatever cost it would be to add a loader...on something like that TC, I'd expect $4K or so less without a loader.

I think I would look at Tractordata.com and see what the original selling price of the tractor was. Add $3500-4000 to the cost depending on the size of the tractor/loader and go from there. Whatever % you depreciate the tractor by, subtract that same % from the loader unless it is really beat up, twisted, bent etc. Just like tractor condition, loader condition would play a big part in how much you deduct for it.
Rather than look at Tractorhouse to see what high hopes folks have of selling their used stuff, look at original cost on TractorData.com and make your own assessment based on hours of use, condition of paint, seat, hydraulics, engine, tires, etc.

I've been to many farmer "going out of business/retirement" auctions where a nice utility tractor with loader installed will be sold "3 ways". That is first as separate pieces and then as a complete unit, with the auctioneer accepting whatever totals highest. The unit is usually shown complete and the loader demonstrated to at least function on the tractor.

In these cases the used loader alone usually brings bids of $2-3K, less if the loader is a little worse for wear.

Most people don't want to buy a used tractor and then have to consider purchasing a brand new loader to be installed because of the cost factor. Or the alternative, search around for a used loader that fits or might be made to fit.

So I would say it worth in that range of $2-3K. Of course if the buyer is needing a loader tractor the "package" will be worth a little more additional to him; if they are only wanting the tractor then it's worth a little less.

All of this can vary somewhat based on local markets, size of the tractor and loader, is seller private or dealer, etc.

Thanks for the help with this.

Am I correct that a used compact utility tractor without a loader might be harder/slower to sell down the road if and when I choose to?

I can't answer your question directly, but i estimate 90%+ of those who write on T-B-N have FELs on their tractors, if they have but one tractor.

Small tractors are Jack-of-all-trades and the FEL is Jack himself.

It shouldn't be any harder to sell at all. Some buyers like a no loader tractor because they feel it's had less abuse, wear and tear on front end, etc. Just will sell for a few thousand less.

I agree, no loader, no problem. If I wanted a loader I would just make sure they are not hard to find, to add later.
