Is that the best oil to use?
Did you get an operator's manual with the tractor?

i asked the parts guy if I should use 15w 40 oil in the engine.
He said i should use the 10w30.

If Kubota recommends 10w30 but you use 15w40, it wont hurt anything, but you might lose a little cold cranking ability if you use the machine in a very cold climate.

If you were going to buy maint supplies from the dealer, I'd use the recommended stuff, if outsourcing, use what you can get.

My dealer in Northern Va. recommended 15w 40 for my BX 24. The manual specs 10w 30 or 40. I went ahead and followed the dealers recommendation (actually- the parts guy) but have felt a little guilty straying from Kubota's recommendation.

I'm not sure why people make oil such a big decision when all you need to do is follow the recommendation in the operator's manual. It lists the weight and the API certifcation you need to use, the change interval, everything. The parts guy might have recommended 15w because that's what he had in stock. Life is full of hard decisions. Read the manual and what oil to use aint one of them. :)

How picky is Kubota on warranty if one doesn't have proof of 50 hour service?
IOW if something big goes wrong can they deny warranty using that as an excuse, or rather will they?
Different companies act differently in this regard, some are very strict and use every opportunity to deny and others are more reasonable.
Just asking I really haven't heard how picky Kubota is.

That's exactly what I'd be asking myself. If the motor takes a dump later down the raod, with the fact that the 50 hr service wasn't done at 50 hrs play a role in upholding the warranty?

I'd call Kubota and ask them. It's a free call and it can't hurt anything.
