Giving a update: The carrier was not as bad as I originally thought. Machined it down a few thousandths and mated it back to the ring gear. Should hold. Kentucky does have the part $350...good deal. I figure I will buy the part and keep it on hand just in case the original repair fails.

Still not sure on the rear diff. lock. Looks like it may just need some adjusting but I have not torn into it yet. I had a "qualified" mechanic look at it and he said it looks like an easy fix.
I will keep you posted.

Glad to hear it's coming around. Once you have all the bugs worked out the tractor will serve you well. Just be sure to keep up on the routine maintence (oil changes, greasing, filters) and you'll be fine.
