I liked Granddaddy and mine call me that with my wife being Nannie Debbie which she likes. My four year old grand daugther says that is because I am a "GRAND" daddy and better than others. SHe is so smart!

When new grand parent use to try and tell people what it was like and soon shortened it to you know all you have heard about grandchildren? It is better than that and it is. You will be amazed at how much you can and will love the child(ren) of your child(ren).

That is exactly how it works. The parents think it is so cute. :D Whatever mispronunciation he first utters will be your new nickname. In fact you will soon learn a new language.

Yup, That's it.
My grandmother was known to all her grand kids as "Ama", cause that's what her first grand child (my older sister) called her.

My mother is "Ga" to her grand kids, because of the same dynamics in a child's speech ability.

The name becomes their new name to everyone in the family, even the adults, I'm sure that goes way back to cave man days.
You went from Thag to Ta-Ta :)

My wife and I are plain old Gramma and Grampa.

An interesting side note - our names for each other (my wife and I) have changed over the years. When we were first married, we called each other by our first names. After our kids started talking, we became "mom" and "dad" to each other, I guess because usually the kids were around and that's what we went by. Our names for each other stayed "mom" and "dad" even after our kids were long gone from our home. Now our names for each other have again morphed to "Gramma" and "Grampa" ever since we got named from the first grand kid...

That's very true. I have noticed that with my wife and I......Well except for the times she has done something ... silly ...then in my best Ricky Ricardo imitation I holler ...."LUUUCEEY". Haha!!

Grand baby update...my daughter went to her Dr on Tuesday, she was dilated to 3, with 60% effacement. Her Dr said she should deliver within a week. Then Thursday evening she lost her "plug". So we thinks we are very close to a birth!

I'm grampa, wife is grammie, paternal grandparents are Vavu/Vavo which is Portugese. BIL is Taid (Tide) which is Welch. I like the idea of using ethnic nicknames when applicable as it's a start toward being multi lingual & retaining of one's heritage. MikeD74T

UMM, I'm no OBGYN, but I (wife) had 3 kids.
I thought when that happens the delivery has to be within a few hours???

Well, my daughter is a RN, she doesn't seem concerned...said that birth occurs normally within a week of losing the mucus plug. I think you might be thinking of when the water breaks - which hasn't happened yet. She was over here last evening napping on the sofa - I jokingly told her don't you dare break water on my sofa! (she thought I was joking - eh no -- Yuk)

Can't wait to see me grandson! Should be soon!
