Our friends from John Deere have again invited me out to view their products. For my trouble last year they gave me a nice pair of gloves, this year a set of sockets. Looking forward to next year.

Careful, you could find yourself being swayed to go Greene.

Neener, neener, NEEEEEner! I got a (vinyl) 'bomber' jacket AND a hat. :number1:

When I bought my tractor I had just moved to my property and didn't have any tools to maintain it. (I didn't even have a workshop/shed yet) So I simply bought what I needed whilst there at the JD dealership... I've been doing it ever since, to the point that it's become a running gag amongst my neighbours.

The quality is very good.

I got the Kubota hat. Plus was sent home with pink Kubota hat for my wife.

Are the sockets made in china?? Last deere tools I looked at, were all made in china! BUT, they still had the john deere price!

They look almost identical to a Stanley set that I'm sure cost way less.

You must have a smaller tractor to bargain with. For getting a quote to trade my M135GX on a Deere 6M or 6R, I got a 3/4" drive socket set with ratchet. The Deere tools are top grade. My cousin got them to throw in a 1/2" drive set with the 7720 and it's the only set on which we haven't been able to break the Rachel with use of major cheater bars. Year before they had a different offer for getting a quote, something about $100 less than what they valued the 3/4" drive set. Times are tough in the ag business. We still have most of last year's harvest in the bin and the prices keep getting worse.

John Deere has one of the best pistol grip grease guns on the market. It has two settings, one for volume and one for pressure. John Deere Heavy Duty Pistol Grip Grease Gun TY26689. I ordered mine online since the dealer here seems to always charge 10-20% over list on parts and accessories.

Yep. I don't expect 2016 to be any improvement. If not, then I expect to lose a few of our young farmers in 2017. Cash rent prices on land dropped 30% here in the last 2 years.

If they are made in China I think I would have respectfully declined and explained why, just me though.

I know a guy that had an old set of open/box john deere wrenches, made in USA... He lost one and decided to replace it, once he had his new wrench home, he noticed it said china on it... lol

BOY, was he ever upset! and he got on the phone calling deere, but deere didn't have one made in USA, so....

I was looking at a deere tractor/loader, it was made in china too, and it was sitting on deere's lot "new" with rust already forming on it!

I just wandered out to the workshop and checked my JD 1/2" metric set... no markings as to country of manufacture anywhere. I looked at the carry-case, the ratchet & several sockets; everything is chromed, embossed John Deere, plus a 'PT' number.

Very high quality though. The ratchet is solid and hefty... if it was made in China, it was made to high standards.

Then again, who am I kidding, if it was a freebie I would have taken them.

Bit off track here.

It's not China's fault if their products are inferior. They are building th to the standard enforced by Deere.

Deere uses China to increase their profit margin. As do most other brand names in the world. Then they shift the blame to China when they get caught with a shoddy product. This has worked very well for those brands andd the consumers have accepted it. Ching, Ching, Ching goes the cash register....

The. Sockets were made in Taiwan. I haven't used them yet but the chrome is flawless, they appear to be well made, and they are well worth what I paid for them.

This deserves a thread of its own.

As a young farmer I'm feeling it hard.

Yep. Maybe start one in rural living?? Not sure which forum would be best. Small percentage of members here farm for a living but we get some good discussion.

I'm sure I've also got some young cattle ranchers around me that bought in high. Prices are steadily dropping. I'm sure their financial statement doesn't look well at the Bank.....
