I tried to access the link and our corporate filter denied access. Reason: "proxy avoidance"

What does that mean?

Either your corporate filter is blocking the site for some reason- i.e. the site is tagged with something the IT folks don't want you to see at work (video, adult content, etc etc)- or the site itself refuses connection through your corporate proxy. It will probably work just fine at home.

Guess he needs to attend to his drinking problem. Probably more to this story and what this guy was doing than "just" driving a mower to the store drunk.
Like maybe being a nuisance at the same time as 'driving' the mower. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Easiest charge may have been driving under the influence.
Lots of "meaningless" laws on the books as well as "far reaching" laws, such as driving meaning anything that has wheels. Might even include bicycles. Don't know tho.

Not sure how it is in your state but in the "live free or die" state of NH you can get a DUI on a boat, snowmobile, 4 wheeler, gator, lawn mower, golf cart, but I've never heard of a bicycle DUI. I have however seen a bicycle speeding ticket. 45 in a 30, He had to pay, court wasn't sympathetic.

You can also get a DUI while riding a horse, driving a buggy or wagon drawn by horses, etc. DUI tickets for such offenses are not 'meaningless laws'. Driving anything while durnk on a public road is a danger to everyone around.

You can also get a DUI in your own driveway. A friend of mine decided to nail some numbers onto his mailbox after midnight. He drove his truck to the head of his driveway. As he was attaching the numbers, the county police came by and saw him flaying away with a hammer in the middle of the night. The officer stopped and arrested him for DUI because his truck was running on the county right of way.

Ah, but then it was not "in his own driveway". I wondered about your post until I came to that bit. I had a lot to do with courts, traffic law etc when I was a dispatcher. Here (WA) he could not have been charged with DUI but would have been charged with " presumptive control". For "DUI" the deputy has to actually see the vehicle in motion (on public road). Control is having the vehicle available for use while drunk, i.e., asleep in the backseat on the side of the road with the keys on your person. Rarely used but it has been and has been made to stick.

One "favor" the officer granted was not towing the truck. As far as the actual charge, maybe it wasn't DUI...he always refers to it as such; but, maybe it was something like the "presumptive control" you mentioned. In any case, he was took to the county jail.

Another wierd story: a friend caused an auto accident. There was a car stopped at a redlight and my buddy rearended the other guy. When the police arrived, they determined the other guy was drunk....he was charged with DUI and causing the accident. I can see the DUI; but, causing the accident?

That's called "piling on", Frank. It's used by law enforcement (cops & DAs) to get as much punishment for a crime as they can. It's areaction to lenient laws and lenient judges, but it's still wrong.
