Hey guys, newbie here. I am a heavy equipment operator at a coal mine, have an 8 acre estate and John Deere has always been my life.
Have an 07 JD 790 with 300 loader and 7 hoe. As many have said on here, it's a great machine but needed a little tuning and customizing when it was first delivered. First problem I noticed was the hoe didn't have enough power nor did the stabilizers have enough power to completely lift the machine. That was quickly fixed by shimming up the main valve. Second problem I had with the hoe was the hydraulic hoses- a lot were getting pinched and the ones to the bucket cylinder weren稚 long enough to allow the machine to dig to 7ft. We put new longer lines on for the bucket cylinder and also put a mesh around every hydraulic line to protect them. And last, we added a custom thumb built by Wallenstein to hoe. That was probably the best investment for that machine yet. In the past I've built a lot of stone walls and ripped out a lot of stumps and brush and the thump sure paid for itself. I'd recommend it for anyone who has the 7 hoe!
The 300 loader is really nice. Over the last couple years I've purchased forks and a loader mounted front blade (which I have on now because of the snow). The loader also needed some shimming at first.
I also OWN 2 JD 265's, one built in 1991 which I recently acquired back in 2010 and completely rebuilt, and the second we bought new in 93'. I have a set of three 48" decks, snow blower and blade for them. They are great and powerful little tractors. We were thinking of selling both and getting a new 700 series but after buying the second, I really got the idea of having two around. Sometimes if I'm doing a digging job and I need the dirt hauled away, I'll be using both 265's with the model 15 dump carts and load em with the 7 hoe.
As for bigger stuff, my friend owns a Ford 5000, International 580 with a BH90X Woods hoe on it and a new New Holland TT75
Always love all the info and enjoy reading posts on this forum. Will be glad to chim in anytime for help or tips!
